Seen a lot of doom and gloom about how we need a full rebuild this summer and disappointment the club hasn't continued the line of "new heros". Whilst I agree we need at least another 8 players in. I just wanted to show that we actually have a half decent team. The biggest hit has been our reliance on loanees. The 6 we have sent make our squad losses feel heavier than they are (baring in mind we will bring in 6 new loanees by end of the window)
Wouldnt be good enough for even championship survival imo. Some quality players no doubt but need some serious strengthening
I put that as a Top 6 L1 team but I suspect it will look very different by August. Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fans Forum
I agree it's not good enough. But there is a team there. We just need a sprinkling of quality from 5 loans and 2/3 squad players from league 2
Be surprised/ impressed if we keep yiadom and MacDonald and even still if we come out with that 11 at the start of the season we are nailed on for relegation Ps not to say there's not some promise and some great players in that 11
That on paper looks good Iron jaw but we need a 15 to 20 goal a season striker not sure Bradshaw can do that as I think he needs a good experienced player up top playing alongside him even if it means getting in a good old goal scoring pro, (we need a John Hendry). We also need championship left back even if out of or age range as Yeadon is a right sided player.
I worked out we need about 10 players now. If 5 of those are loans, fine. The squad we have now is a decent 1st XI except for up front; but obviously we need strength in depth. That will come of course, and lots of new signings will be signed to go straight into 1st team anyway
I can imagine that a couple of the loan spots will be taken up by forwards. Proven goalscorers at this level are beyond our penny jar and it's an ask to expect lower league players to step up as Bradshaw and Armstrong proved - much more so than full backs or centre halves. If we could drop on a Tammy Abraham, that'd be brill.
Me too. There's something to be said for turning up to pre-season friendlies to watch promising up and comers you know nothing about rather than has beens on the wane from how you remember them.
Agreed. Actually think we're at the start of the next 3 year "cycle". And who we're linked to is very exciting. I know I'm a happy clapper, but if I can't clap happy after the last 18 months I don't know why I'd bother watching football!
That team would get relegated in my opinion. If we bring in more loans than permanent signings I'll have a refund on my season ticket please.
It may struggle. The left back isn't good enough. Mallan and D'Almsrdia are unknowns at this level and Mowatt needs to improve. Bradshaw needs a partner and we have no cover for injuries. That said I expect 4 or 5 loanees and 4 or 5 new signings this summer so that is not the team we will start with. I'd say only Davies Macdonald Roberts Yiadim Moncur And Hammill are definite starters from that lidt
Simple question Conan, not a dig , just curious, did you ask for a season ticket refund when a side littered with loan signings took us to wembley twice & concluded with promotion ?
No - but we hadn't brought in £20m in transfer fees, received about £6.5m from the FL, seen a 50 increase in attendances and charged £36 a ticket at the point. Felt like asking for refund when Johnno wasn't sacked after the Altrincham game though.
