Hopefully we spend good money on soli players to build on what we have and we won't be in a battle. Spend on the wrong players then we have a battle. To be honest I don't think we'll go down either way but we'll be in a battle if we don't spend well,we all know that.
It's only May, 1 signing in already. I'm sure we're working hard to get more in. Absolutely no reason not to have confidence with Hecky in charge
Spent a lot of last season moaning cos being in play off final meant we were late shopping, not knowing which league we were going to play in. How many have we signed before this year's play off final?
Spot on. Hecky said last week that he was hoping to bring in a few more signings pretty quickly, although the Play Offs were hampering that somewhat with one or two. Personally, I trust Paul Heckingbottom to get the deals done. Others may think differently.
Here we go, I did say earlier, depite the transfer window not officially open until july, that if we dont make immediate signings, then there would be panic on this board. Please exercise some patiance
I'm sure Hecky's not just twiddling his thumbs; he'll obviously be working on signings. At the end of the day, it's not going to make any difference if we sign someone today or in 3 weeks. Obviously I'd love us to make 11 signings tomorrow; but sometimes patience is needed. Arguably one of our most successful signings last season, MacDonald, was made in August
How many other clubs have signed new players? Free agents will currently demand double/treble what they'll accept if still free in August so it's cat and mouse at the moment with those. We'll likely end up with 3-4 season loans and they'll happen in July/August. So at the moment I'd only expect us to sign people we're buying, which I'd guess may only 4-5, with the others being free and loans.
If we only sign 4/5 players I hope we are playing 5-a-side though I can't disagree with any of the rest.
I said buying not signing. My wild guess is we'll sign about 14 players for the first team, about 4-5 buys, 4-5 frees and 4-5 loans.
Fair do that looks about right. A massive job and best to take our time and get it right. Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fan Forum mobile app
But on matters relating to players coming in - then Hecky is NOT in charge. The owner Patrick Cryne determines who ultimately is signed. And after the revelations surrounding 01/17 - with Hecky on the phone sorting transfers out while the team was getting ready to start a Championship match - then to be honest - with the poor buying power of Barnsley coupled with the poor organisational structure behind the scenes - then NO, I have little confidence in Barnsleys ability to get the players in that Hecky wants to get in. We will get players - but will they be the 'realistic' players that Hecky actually wanted?
Whilst Patrick is unfortunatley ill, who is ultimatley running the club, is it Patricks son?, remember this is the guy that doesent want the reigns (or certainly didnt) when Patrick is no longer in charge. So this worries me a little as Im not sure his motivation will be anywhere near Patricks fullsome support. Amongst friends last night I heard Heckys been told he needs to sell before he can buy anymore players. Now Im not saying this is true at all but in the world of Barnsley FC, it wouldnt surprise me. And dont get me started how long this CEO farce has dragged on, cos this aint helping recruitment one bit.
No more players in until we have a CEO I'm afraid. Which is why we are missing out on targets left, right and centre. Hecky knows who he wants, but the longer this debacle rumbles on, the less likely we are to get them.
There's a very interesting post for Daragh MacAnthony of Peterborough on this, saying that even Conference players who have never played league football are currently demanding silly money.
It's 28 degrees out today. Stop fretting over things you can't affect. Everything will be fine. Trust me.
