He failed the medical in January, his time to move was last summer, coming off a decent season with us. Instead he decided to hang around at Southampton instead of pushing on with his career.
I'd like to see Isgrove back, but at the same time I can see why we would not sign him. Towards the end of his time with us he looked a great player, really dangerous in league 1.... and yet he only scored 1 and didn't set many (any?) up. Tough for him to step up. But, he knows the club and what would be required of him here. He puts in lots of effort and has some talent. If we can get him on a free I'd say sign him up! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Think all these comments about him choosing to not push his career on or choosing to play kids football are a bit harsh. You could argue that after a successful season with us he backed himself to break into the Southampton team, which shows anything but a lack of ambition. If the way he conducts himself on the pitch is anything to go by he hardly strikes me as a lazy young player akin to Mellis etc.
It's very harsh - it was Southamptons desire for him to spend the first 6 months with them to assess his readyness for first team. Then they agreed a loan in January but he failed the medical. I'm not sure why. And the deal fell through. He was a decent player in L1. And like many of our signings looked far better when he went back than when he came. Championship would be a big step up for him. Wouldn't be against him coming back - as a last 20 minute impact sub he would be a great option on the bench. But his wages would be reflective of his lack of championship experience. Imagine another club will happily pay him big wages and hope he can step up.
Thing Thing is he probably contributed alot more than some people think, his work rate created goals and space for others. Abit like scowen, he doesnt assist or score many for a central midfielder but his overall play is invaluable
Strange that he would go to Bristol and sign for a manager he was terrible under. Until the switch to 442 It was like playing with 10 men on the pitch with Isgrove. This also means if we are planning to play 1 up front at times next season I don't think Isgrove would be a good signing
Its a tough one for the me Isgrove one, My head says I don't think he will be good enough for this league despite the undoubted brilliant work rate he has. But my heart wants him to come back as he was so good in the final few weeks of the season and in the playoffs too he was great. I think if the wage demands are affordable then we should get him in, still only 24 and seemed very well liked within the club from fans and players etc, also we are very low on numbers at the moment with all the outgoings so he could prove a useful signing.
I would defo have him back down here next season. Great work rate, was improving with us. Can't fault him for going back to Southampton to try and break into their team. Didn't work out but think he could step up to the plate, especially if we have a decent strikeforce in place to supply!
I've seen a lot of comments saying he was average in league 1. I don't think that's fair. I thought he looked pretty good, albeit a little inconsistent. Couple of lads I know said he was fairly decent in the championship for Wednesday. I reckon he'd be worth a deal if the money is right. Sent from my WAS-LX1A using Tapatalk
Isgrove has massive potential, I think some on here are forgetting how much he actually did provide. I'd take him all day long, without any doubt.
Ive got to agree with what a few have said, Lloyd didnt really do enough for me either until it really mattered in our promotion. If its a 'good' deal for us then fine but lets not pander to him if we do show an interest.
Wouldn't bother with him. Didn't look streets ahead of anyone whilst in league one. Better players out there for less money im sure. Sent from my iPhone using Barnsley FC BBS Fans Forum
