It's all very well blaming the club for selling players in January....

....but what about the players themselves for knowingly breaking up a team that was possibly on the brink of something huge, all for short-term gain?

Had they stayed together, they COULD have all been Premier League players right now. Granted, Hourihane will probably make it there one way or another, but as for the others? Possibly a once in a career opportunity.

While Winnall was the scapegoat in January for the way he went about everything, let's be honest, Hourihane is just as responsible.

But maybe connor thought Sam's just left our top scorer where do the goals come from? I'm going to jump **** too.
Agree with your post easy to beat the club but the players are just as responsible.

Finally, someone gets it. The greed of players seems to have gone over everyone's heads. If they'd have been awful and we'd gone down, they'd have begged for a new contract.

The club could have made them honour their contracts like they did with Watkins. The reason they didn't was because the offers were better and the club wanted to sell.

We gained promotion and the club didn't offer them new contracts. Players show little loyalty and are greedy but so are clubs who throw away players when they decide they don't want them anymore

Greedy player accepts contract offer from other club

a well run club would never have let so many key players hold all the cards at such a critical point. No forward planning and a total shambles.

Hourihane said the players would have signed new contracts in the summer.

Yet Patrick said at the start of the season that both Conor and Sam were not willling to discuss new contracts last summer. So, assuming there wasn't a huge misunderstanding, somebody's not been entirely truthful.

I heard Patrick Cryne say that both Conor and Sam had refused to sign a new contract last Summer at a supporters' meeting down at Oakwell. It was even transmitted on Youtube. Despite numerous requests, no one has been able to provide a recording of Conor saying he was happy to sign a new contract.

I suppose we have to ask which party needs that statement to be true the most.

I honestly don't think Patrick would have come out and said it so publicly if it wasn't true. Why would he? Obviously I don't know for sure, but basic rationale and all that....

He said that "players would have signed" from what I remember, and insinuated that he was among them. Of course, he could have been referring to Marley, Josh and possibly Roberts.

And Patrick told us last summer that both Connor and Sam would not sign new contracts, preferring to honour them until the end of the season and then see what offers were forthcoming.

Likewise though if Patrick knew that Connor was lying to his customers would he not have publicly denied the claims?
