Thought some of you might find this interesting. Only Palace, Swansea and Baggies not in debt (last year's figures). Most clubs are simply being used as a cash cow by (mainly) foreign owners, providing them large loans at interest rates ~5% above the standard rate and raking in the TV cash. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/jun/01/premier-league-finances-club-by-club
Bournemouth's matchday turnover in the PL is £5m. Yet people say we are less of an attractive proposition to a potential new owner.
We've been saying this for years. Shows no sign of happening but just getting worse. No level playing field exists and will only get worse. We've got smarter at now getting in revenue. We just need to be more smarter in using that revenue. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
Peter Ridsdale's financial 'acumen' (spending money you don't actually have now on the off chance of it possibly being paid back with potential future success, but taking huge risks if no success was forthcoming) was mocked & derided a few years ago. Sadly, he now appears to have been a trendsetter.
Yes mainly. To grow we'd have to reel in the floating fans from Leeds and both Sheffield teams. This is a tall order. I think we'd get 25,000 maximum if we were an established prem team (assuming our ground had this capacity). The days of large numbers of (generally) men in Barnsley with significant disposable income ended in 1985.
We should be an attractive proposition. Only 1 league behind bournemouth who have only 5 million crowd turnover but 170 mill tv rights money.
Think the Bournemouth owner has gambled around £50m. It is a risk but if you get there it pays off. I think Bournemouth have shown how irrelevant matchday revenue is once your in the Premiership. They're approaching their third season but are happy to have top end League One gates. If they thought it would benefit them they would have extended the ground by now I'm sure.
I think Bournemouth got in early enough that £50m would do the trick. Given the parachute payments and other clubs doing the same (vis a vis investment), I'd guess a £50 investment in Barnsley would not guarantee promotion. We'd be in a better position on the playing field post £50m investment that is for sure ;-)
Sometimes.... sometimes not. Dont think hudders or burnley invested wildly via to premier access. But conversely many have and still remain in the championship.
If the club had held on to half the players its let go over 2 seasons , we would have taken a very small investment gamble that most would have laid money on paying off and even if we only had one season there, with todays money thats thrown around , we would have been secure and stable for years to come
