being honest I've come down south for football and money. Don't be crying when he's off in 2 years time for even more money.
It's a short career don't blame any of them really if someone offered me 3x my wage in my trade I'd be off simple as that.
Can't fault the lad. If we play some part in his future success that's great. Hecky's brief will be turn him into a £10 million talent. If he's half as good as the wee midfielder we signed from Celtic in 1979 we've got ourselves a gem.
It's all about money. And the food chain. We pick off talent from poorer clubs and we see ours picked off us by richer clubs. It's been this way for a long time.
At least he's reminded me why I'm not bothering with a season ticket. Good lad. Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fans Forum
I'm not bothering with a season ticket until we sign players like Mcnumpty,Kennedy wiseman lita ect we need to sign more terrible players who have no chance of progressing any further than us.
Because that of course is the alternative...genius. Neil Redfearn, Ronnie Glavin, Paul Futcher, Clive Baker, Eric Winstanley, Nicky Eaden, Dave Watson. All complete waste of space. Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fans Forum
Football has changed alot in 20 years sad but true. What did people expect mallen to say it's only the truth I remember when we signed angus and he said alot of defender have come from barnsley and progreased to the premiership (Mawson stones holgate) something along those lines. It's just how football is like Whitey says football pyramid.
Well any player we sign could say that. It's hardly breaking news. Not getting a season ticket because players will leave for more money is astonishing imo
We got two and a half years of Conor Hourihane. He led our team up the Wembley steps twice and then led us superbly in the second tier, helping the club finish in its highest position for 17 years. He cost us a quarter of a million, he made us a hell of a lot more than that when he left, on top of the success achieved by the side with him in it. I always name Hignett as the best player I've seen play for us. He was here just 18 months. That was 17 years ago. Like Conor this year, we saw him nabbed off us by a club just out of the Premier League spending silly money. We got just over a year out of Ashley Ward. Made a huge profit on him. He's held up as one of our greatest strikers. We got two and a half years out of Winnall, made a big profit on him as well as the success his goals brought us. So whilst yes, we don't seem to keep our best players very long, we never have. Not in my lifetime. There's no loyalty in football now. Let's not forget that our club soon shifted Hecky on as a player once we'd got promoted. It works both ways. We have a proper recruitment team now, great lads who can spot talent up and down the country. The last three years proves that. But we will eventually lose them if they perform. Some for big money, some maybe not as much as you'd like, and some will walk for nothing. We don't have the finances required to gamble. But it's been a great couple of years has it not? Much rather the current scenario than the old one where a manager recruited lads he'd previously worked with, only working with one or two agencies etc. Or paying ludicrous wages out to players at the tail end of their careers. I hope that by January everyone is worrying about retaining more players. Because it means we'll be doing well again. We're favourites for relegation already. Good. Just how we like it. C'est un moment passionnant!
Out of the last 10 permanent signings how many are up to scratch and how many are likely to be sold for good money? 4, being generous. If the hit rate isn't better this summer.... In fact, it's unfair to say these things to thee
I said it reminded me why not that it was the reason. Greed. From Costa agitating for a move to China via Sam's agent releasing pictures of his signing on the day of Rimmo's funeral to the Venky's and Oyston's of the world. Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fan Forum mobile app
Hassell, Foster, maybe even Adam Davies. Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fan Forum mobile app
