    The advert was probably supplied by the same independent sales house that's also supplying full page Labour adverts to other regional titles.

    It's an ad agency. They book spaces for customers and supply the artwork for print. Usually last minute.

    Bloody hell we live in a democracy if the tories or any other party want to pay for a front page in the Chronicle they are entitled to do so . I'll tell you what I regularly advertise in the chron and it's a fortune one of the highest advert rates in Yorkshire. You can't blame the Chronicle for accepting the money as it's probably cost the tories about 5 grand for the privilege , It's just an advert , fair enough a front page advert, but just wang it if you don't like it . It's an independent paper answerable to its shareholders so they aint gonna say no to the brass are they ? The Chronicle is a bit like the Labour party... we buy it cos we've always bought it . Doesn't mean it int crap .

    Putting an advert on the front page would have cost more and as I said they are a business who have to make money to survive. People are free to take the front cover off if they find it so offensive. It's an advert from a political party one week before a general election.

    The vote from Barnsley won't change regardless of the advert. In my honest opinion, I think it's a complete waste of money.
