Doubt Birmingham could afford him. We're in a better place than them as well at the moment and he turned them down when they were in the Championship to come to us in League 1 so he won't wanna go there now.
The club has to take the offer seriously because clearly there's no money at the club. The club cannot afford to let £5m worth of talent walk out of the door for nowt this time next season. But on the other hand - there's been so much disruption to the first team over the last 6 months - how much more can the first team take before relegation becomes a certainty.
As soul destroying as it is, he isn't worth £5 mill so would be good business. It wouldn't be good business though if we do nothing with that money. If we reinvest the money on the squad, I'm happy with that price.
If it's true then it's a starting bid, and could be the start of a auction. Personally I think he is worth more than that to us. We got 5.5 for mawson and he is neither as quick or as dominant in the air as Roberts. Roberts is an animal of a centre half. Sadly if these rumours are true, then he'll be gone. If it's true and they are offering £5m plus then we have to take it. as far as recruitment goes, sniffing out good centre backs is probably our strongest point and I believe in them to find an adequate replacement if so.
We're in a strong position with Roberts. He is now a proven top Championship CB and as such is worth more than £5m, especially to a cash rich club. I wouldn't sell him for less than £8m. Sadly that is still peanuts for clubs with rich owners and/or with parachute payments chasing the riches of the Premier League.
The obvious answer is sell him for the maximum that we can get. He's not irreplaceable. Good as he is, Marc is prone to the odd gaffe now and then (penalty giveaways, fair or not) and his distribution still needs a lot of work. I'll be sorry to see him go but so long as we get a good fee for him then no one should complain. This is how it's going to be for the time being. Find rough diamonds, polish them up, sell them on. Repeat..... Anyone that has a problem with that is supporting the wrong football club.
Much as I would like to keep him £5m is a lot of money and it is delusional to think he is worth more than Alfie
Think we can push for a little more. If the money was actually spent on the team I wouldn't mind us selling so many players, but we don't even spend any of it! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
We've almost sold off, all the gold nuggets we held So i suppose selling another 2/3 would be water off a ducks back...to PC and Co. ...that said silly money to a selling club like ours is what it strives for, due to its business model To us the fans it's a kick in the teeth has we measure success on the field. ....but ask yourself this ..how will a certain PH feel knowing once again he's starting from scratch and no matter how you dress it up will be told ....the aim is not to be relegated nothing else ......tread water...In my opinion and many may disagee ,I feel the club lacks any real ambition of other than selling to survive The club know that if paul walks there's always somebody out there to fill his shoes who is happy to take the money until they are sacked. Unfortunately it's a harsh reality .....that we find ourselves in...a reality that at times is hard to accept and divides the fan base in their thinking. Whilst I would lay money that the majority on here are under 30 and their passion for the club runs high .. you do find as you get older your passion wains a little, however, Barnsley FC is in your blood and therefore you still feel the hurt and pain and get angry when you see how certain situations unfold before your eyes...remember the quote that gets banished around when we ever go down ...we will come back stronger....yes we do admittedly although it's only temporarily because we don't build on it....we let contracts run down sell off the assets cheaply in most cases PH summed it up when he said things have to change off the field also his remarks abut Huddersfield. ...that could have been us....unfortunately things off the field don't alter for the best in my opinion.....
Southampton have now said they are not a selling club and so should we. We are impoverished, and if we are ambitious, he is part of the clubs spine. All we need is a decent goal scorer, and then we can build from that position. I am a believer of the Shankley philosophy, however I'm an old git.
