People question this guy all the time but he's turning into a proper player now. Confidence seems to be up and for some he's unpickable. Collingwood and Rob Key both say he's tough to pick.
He is quality, but England used him as drinks carrier for the best part of 5 years meaning he got little cricket for either England or Yorkshire. He should have had a far better career than he has, but glad to see him belatedly enjoying some success. Sent from my SM-T800 using Tapatalk
That was years ago. The biggest problem he's had in recent years is with Yorkshire. The comments around him not playing last season nothing short of disgusting from Andrew Gale. England had to pick up his confidence. Remember him having problems wth the management when they got relegated last time too.
Couldn't give a **** what is avg is. It's about now, and he's woefully out of form. Meanwhile Bairstow performs every game he plays, because he has to.
England's success over the last 30 months come from a settled team. Not everyone's going to be in form but England has the most middle and lower order strength down to 7/8 of any team even without the impressive Woakes. When you think of many Tournaments in the past that have gone wrong you see tactical changes after 1 game or just before the first game.
I like Rashid. When on top of his game, he's quality. From what I can gather though, is that when he is struggling, he doesn't go back to basics to try and gains some degree of control. And The poster earlier was right, If he had been playing International cricket more regular earlier, instead of acting as third man game after game, he'd have been able to work the kin . ks out of his game and develop quicker... As for Roy, dropping him may be the best thing for him as an individual. He started out like a house on fire, but since getting dropped from his IPL side, he seems to have lost the confidence and rhythm from his game. He needs to do a Root, and go back to playing week in, week out for his club to get back in the rhythm, and sort out the holes in his game...
Just let Bairstow open. He's in form, has a great eye and is quite capable of doing a better job than Roy. Indeed in terms of style and tempo it's pretty much a like-for-like swap.
I said it was years ago. He was 'involved' with England on many tours without playing. But they rarely released him back to his club. Gale was a bit of a knob at times but he knows his players better than we do. Rashids best form for Yorks last year was with the bit. I see him as a good all rounder but a guy who needs confidence intact. Sent from my SM-T800 using Tapatalk
The worst thing about Roy's dismissal was that he reviewed it without any consultation with his colleague. Just shows his desperation. Smacked the first ball for four, LBW second ball. It doesn't matter how many good scores he has had - we can't play with ten batsmen, some of who are bowlers. If Morgan sticks with him for the semi final you have to question his judgement. Good news is that it is raining so England can regroup in the dressing room. Would be incredible if the Aussies and NZ finished bottom of this group, with Bangladesh going through with one win out of three games
I’ve never particularly rated Roy, even when he was on form his technique was suspect and he got out for 30s when a top-class player should have been going on and capitalising much more. 34 really is a pretty poor average for an international opening batsmen in ODIs, it’s palpably the lowest of England’s specialist batsmen. More recently the other countries have worked out that Roy hasn’t a clue against spin. He was embarrassing in that World T20 final and has had to sit on his arse through April and May this year because he wasn’t good enough for the IPL’s worst team. However, whether I rate him or not, he needs to be put out of his misery now and sent back to county cricket to work on his game. At the moment he’s simply not good enough and way out of form, even before the spinners come on. Joe Root may as well be the opener for all the protection he gets from Roy. Why on earth Roy didn’t just spend some time in the middle in the last two games and try to get some semblance of form back instead of playing two brain dead shots can only be explained by his total lack of cricketing nous, further evidenced by his selfish and inexplicable wastage of England’s only review on himself today. A few weeks ago at Headingley, I had the great privilege to watch an imperious one day innings of 174 from Jonny Bairstow, widely and authoritatively acknowledged as English cricket’s most commanding batsman. It was so good that even the great Joe Root just got singles and stood and watched from the other end. Bairstow was opening on that occasion and really he could do no worse than Roy doing the same for England. My only concern would be that England have had him sat on his arse for so long when he should have been playing! (Rather like their treatment of the excellent Rashid in the West Indies which set him back years too).
What, like the further poor treatment of Rashid by England, dropping him for Ball last week just before their first game in this very tournament?!?
