There's really no need to be condescending, it's his opinion which he's entitled to. Roberts is a much more dominant cb than Mawson but Alfie is far better on the ball. Together they would make one hell of the premier league defender. Roberts is absolutely vital to us and I would be doing my utmost to get him to sign another contract. If not, get as much money as we can for him as we seem fairly good at signing and developing defenders.
There are lots of reason I can make that comment RC Tyke. Mawson. Rumoured 3rd move in 3 years. Always on the up. Currently competing for the u21's in Poland in which he got a clean sheet. He's current in front of Arsenal starlet Rob Holding and Wolves duo Iorfa and Hause along with Southampton Stephens that got into the Saints team on a regular basis. If the move happens he's going to the best Footballing side in the country imo by a mile. To say he's dominant might be looking one sided on paper but Mawson's scored about 20 goals in 3 seasons and i'd imagine a lot of those were headers and if you looked last season 2/3 goals he scored in the prem were VERY VERY important to the Swans flapping there way out of the drop zone. 2/3 goals leading to wins by the odd goal. The only thing IMO Roberts beat him on would be Top Speed. Roberts can look very quick over 20/30 yards.
Come on, yes Roberts is most definitely one of the most important players at the club but he isn't a far better player than Mawson. They complimented eachother perfectly because they were VERY strong where the other was weak. Roberts was quick to cover where Alfie was slow to react, however by the time Alfie left he was as good as Roberts in the air, a much bigger goal threat and always was far far better with the ball at his feet. If I had to choose between the 2 to do the main job they are there to do and that is defend. I would pick Roberts. As an all round player Mawson is better. But I think Roberts is the better defender. Certainly better at winning defensive headers
£4m for Roberts sounds ok (we could get more from Burnley imo), but I just can't see it as a positive. Getting £4m is only worth it if it goes back into the team, and we've seen over the last year that it doesn't. Therefore it can only be bad mews for the fans: the team is getting worse. I understand we need to sell players but we've not spent any of that money we've received. It's getting on for £20million and we've bought Mowatt who's rubbish and two young ones who looks promising. I'll be gutted if Roberts goes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Agree. Money's got to be spent. Stones Mawson Bree Hourihane Winnall plus S/T money and money from league/ TV. I'd hope of the transfer income we could spend 25% at least on transfers out plus what we spent last season.
Here's a tip for those who are worrying: which coach, club and recruitment team found Mawson, Hourihane, MacDonald, Yiadom, Winnall, Scowen, Davies etc? Have faith. I wouldn't agree that we should now stray from this successful strategy and start over-spending.
Hecky was at the club. Fact is recruitment team is still the same, unless you believe all the ****** about LJ watching 900 hours of every touch of the ball players had made since they were 9
First team coaches aren't involved in a recruitment process imo. Chief Scout, Manager, Ceo/ Chairman Analysis ? Hassell now does a lot of the youth recruitment from what i've heard.
I can only ever judger on what I see Andy. Thought 2015 summer was better than 2016. Thought winter 2016 was better than winter 2017.
Knowing Hemsie has this year decided to pin a pic of Hecky to his dart board, it's gonna be a long season
Go on Andy. Tell me you thought LJ's summer and winter Transfer was better than worse than PH's. Fletcher was a winter transfer and Mawson a summer. On impact and money spent PH spent more on Kpewaka than LJ spent on Mawson, Watkins and Roberts.
Hemsworth Tyke in I hate Heckingbottom and Roberts shocker. Sun is shining. Get down to thi waterpark with disposable barbecue and crate of Stella and chill thi beans.
And still, you're missing the point I made. Which was: have faith in the same people who found the likes of Alfie and Conor to find more quality players.
Apparently first team coaches don't have a say so comparing LJ to Hecky is irrelevant. You said it yourself
Over spending? We're barely under spending. Yiadom and McDonald were the only good signings we made last season in my opinion, and it was down to the players already there from the previous season who were responsible for the form up to 31st January. Jury is still out on Moncur, Mowatt has been ***** so far, Bradshaw not good enough, Kpekawa a waste of space, Jackson is an honest lad but out of his depth. When you try and do EVERYTHING on the cheap, eventually you will fall short.
