He's not irreplaceable , almost no one is but Josh Scowen is a great footballer the kind that every team needs . Saying that , I loved Perkins .
I think we'll definitely miss him, and in particular his energy. Having a player like him in the side, I'm sure makes other players try that bit more too. One point I would like to make though, when he was injured last season (or was it season before?) he couldn't back into the team in his natural position, and ended up playing in an alien position like full back just to get back in. I always believed he was a cracking player for us and worthy of a shirt every week, but if our manager felt he weren't good enough to get back in, why should he get more football elsewhere at a 'bigger' side in the same division? As he'll be available effectively for free, most championship teams would be prepared to take him and pay more than we're paying - I just hope he gets regular action like he deserves. I just hope it's not a local rival he joins.
I can see why Josh is choosing to move on. His combative style and intense closing down seems to mask his qualities with the ball. He's a good passer and is comfortable accepting the ball and turning with it. He's prone to a silly pass which is perhaps his main weakness, aside from not being 6ft 4! He had the issue of the club taking his shirt number last year and it wouldn't surprise me if he just feels a bit unappreciated. Probably our best player and I think he'll improve any team in this division and be far from a bench warmer. Good luck Josh.
He's leaving cos he can get a lot more money elsewhere. To put it down to a shirt number is frankly barmy
No doubt money plays the part. But if you feel wanted, you've a slim chance of pulling on the heart strings (see Hammill). Don't think we had a chance with Josh.
It's money. Plain and simple. We never had a chance of keeping him. Hammill' situation was different in that he'd already done the moving on for money thing and it didn't work, at least football wise
Its all about money. Very rarely is it not. But if fans underestimate a player, and the club make you feel lesser by taking your shirt number, they aren't very conducive factors to influencing a player to stay
As per - some on here!!! Scowen is a good player and will be a big loss to the club - but now he's going we get the same old rubbish from a few on here when a player leaves, saying 'he weren't that good anyway'. He will be a loss - and he's going because the Barnsley owners can't afford to keep him. It's as simple as that.
Not seen 1 post that says he's not that good anyway. Some saying he's average, others saying he's the best player at the club, which is laughable. All a bit meh for me him leaving. Gets booked often and hardly ever a goal threat. If he was under contract and a club bid for him there's no way it would be above £500k.
It will be a loss, and I'm a little disappointed as a I really liked Josh as a player (I'm sure he was a good bloke too) - he's the type of player that every team needs but more often than not, goes under the radar for the most part. His performance against Leeds United last season was up there with some of the best I've seen at Oakwell, and I only think Hourihane was given the MOM that night because of his goal, and his imminent departure. He's proved versatile, never shirks a tackle, chips in with the odd goal, and always gave 100%. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there are players out there that can fill his void, and hopefully Sessi will be given a chance to do so, after what must've been an awful year for him, but given Josh's age, the fact that we are getting nothing for him, I don't know, I just feel as though maybe the club might have done a little bit more to try and convince him to stay, and it's somewhat surprising that we haven't.
East stand red is on tykes mad forum and is saying he has the nod from somewhere its indeed Q.P.R. for me its not the best move and I think he could do better than them.
To me he was average, no better than say Perkins. He was rarely a goal threat, and I didn't see him involved in community work such as Stone, Hourihane and Hammill.struck me more of a moody individual like Winnall, and therefore not a favourite of mine.
