Roberts is an important part of the team. Maybe the cornerstone of the team. But he'll be going sooner or later. Barnsley can't afford to let him walk out of the door for nothing. Especially a player that's worth over £5M. Solution - the club needs to strike a deal with Roberts and his agent that he will be allowed to move on in January. In the mean time this will hopefully give Lindsay time to get up to speed as a Championship player - ready and waiting to replace Roberts.
If we wait till Jan he will go for peanuts compared to what we would get this window. If we ask for too.much in jan clubs will just think sod it we will wait a few months and get him for nowt
So after slaughtering the club for allowing the contracts of top players to run down, meaning they went for less than what they were worth, you want the club to run down roberts contract then sell him for less than what he is worth ? Priceless
I don't understand the talk of Lindsay needing time to 'get up to speed' in the championship. He's been playing top flight football in his home country for the last two seasons. He'll be up to speed alright.
I thought Hecky said there had been no interest in Roberts, Hecky might want to play 3 Centre Back's in some games. I trust Hecky
The alternative - is sell Roberts now and get the full amount for him and replace him with someone who is not a tested Championship player - and just hope for the best. In other words - the club just cannot take a risk that big on an untested player. If Lindsay had got experience in English football then the club would have more options.
John lad , the club said we had no need to sell in January..but we did...For me Roberts will be on his way...its the business plan .. that said we shouldn't sell our best players , if we are ever going to achieve anything major..
Scoring a pen at Oakwell is dead easy....... all yer need is toby tyke to be int nets when tha teks it - my daughter was mascot v crewe alex (more than) a few years ago
Every body is saying sell Roberts what if he doesn't want to move. And I thought the January transfer window had been scrapped.
