A feeling I remember well from school! Never met Gwynn Thomas, but from the same era I saw Futch having a kickabout with his boys on the old astroturf pitch. Went up and asked him for his autograph and he looked so stern I thought he was going to chin me. About the same level of scariness as our Latin teacher at school, who as @Chef Tyke will confirm, was a very scary man indeed.
Brilliant era to watch football in, l used to come home and do my football tables with one of these... You used to slot the team names in. If you were quick enough it was like a live table
Other than Jimmy Cricket & Gordon Owen making me feel like Methuselah (rotten swines!), it's been a long time since I've enjoyed a thread as much as this one. Thank you to all the contributors.
Stopped off for a coffee on my way up the M1 and spotted a bloke sat with a woman eating a bacon sarnie. My mate said he looked like Lord Lucan but he became slightly less animated when I told him it was Malcolm Shotton an ex- Barnsley defender. Fine looking lad very friendly and pleasant to talk to especially when I told him I'd seen him play for the mighty Reds. He was born in Newcastle so he might have been on his way to see family he might still have up there.
I've got the League Ladders from the Prem season somewhere I will have to dig em out. Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fan Forum mobile app
He was my absolute hero as a kid. I was privileged to be introduced to being a barnsley fan just a year or so before that great team reached its magic peak. 80/81 season - amazing times.
Met him two weeks ago. His son, Olly, married one of my daughter's dance teachers, had an evening function at Silkstone Golf Club. Nice bloke, nice family. And that goal when we beat Wednesday. Bob Bolder had barely moved when it hit the net. Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk
Don't know if he still does but he lived two doors down from my first proper girlfriend in Brampton Bierlow. He was still playing at the time but always happy to chat to awe struck me. Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fan Forum mobile app
He may well still in that area. As far as I know he'd got one of the new developments down Brampton/Cortonwood way. Great bloke. Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk
Honister Close was where he used to live. I'm sure he enjoyed the thoughts of my '17 year old self'.... Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fan Forum mobile app
