With how inflated prices are nowadays I genuinely can't see how we could realistically get a player that could "get bums on seats" I like the signings we've made so far and given our history of developing players, I'm 99% sure we'll stick with this for the foreseeable.
I can't see that happening. Good player but not within our wage structure I would imagine. If we were to push the boat out for wages I would say it's more likely to be for a striker.
I would imagine there's no foundation to this big signing rumour but if we were to break the transfer record, I could only imagine it been for a highly rated youngster from a Prem club or maybe someone from abroad. Potentially we could fit a player of either of those two types into the very top of our wage structure. I don't see any of this happening though and like others have said , I am happy with our recruitment policy.
I think the attention must now turn to strikers and they don't come cheap, so, yes, I could see us having to match the Hristov cash to land a decent one. This is now the obvious weakness of the team. If you look around, there is Godden from Stevenage, although he went very quiet towards the end of the season. there is Olly Watkins at Exeter, but I would have thought he will be Derby-bound if they are willing to splash £3 million. Miller has already gone to Peterborough and he is 28 anyway. A youngster from premiership? No idea, but it am expecting at least one, or two.
Strikers always cost top dollar, therefore for us to pay a huge transfer fee is highly unlikely. I am convinced for us to sign strikers of pedigree it will be down the loan market route. I have no problem at all with this, as we are spending in other areas of the squad & I feel its a balancing act between loan & permanents.
Any player who is out of a job and no one wants to sign is within our budget. If they want to play. Wilkinson and Hendry came for half the wages they were on just to get a game.
James Vaughan from Bury please. Reminds me so much of Winnall with the types of goals he scores. Final year of a 2 year contract, great pedigree, great form, all types of goals. A bit old at 28, but not past it and I think he would be great with Tom
Another good shout. Scores goals every year. My only reservation would be that I think the scunny fans hate us enough already (Winnall, Hayes)
