3 ex-sportsmen think Cricket is pointless? And one of them is a cricketer? ;-)

Cricket is dead - long live ping pong.

What has I'm a Celebrity got to do with anything?

Bez from the Happy Mondays won Celebrity Big Brother, maybe we should appoint him as Hecky's assistant

    And?

I've told you the answer to your initial statement from the mouth of someone who goes on at least 3 per year.

This isn't some pampered mega star of his sport, who's ability alone will get him big contracts and guarantee success. This is, like the Barnsley players, a hard working(well, as hard working as a footballer can be) pro that finds team training trips improves their game, and finds most of his team mates think the same.

Only downside to him, is that he had to leave his family for a week at a time, but it's a sacrifice he has to make to support them...

??? and thats relevant how?? So did Vicki Patterson but I wouldnt value her opinion overmuch on the benefits of a football training camp.

By the way you know how international teams all get together for a training camp before world cups etc - is that a complete waste of time as well

I don't know who V Patterson IS very well but from what I gather she's a outwood confident person that's quite open with what she thinks. So quite similar in that.

To be fair, I always hated being sent on team building exercises at work. But then again, I'm not on over 5 grand a week, I'd happily bond with anyone while pocketing a footballer or cricketers wage.

It's if they're itching when they get back that they need to worry. What goes on tour.....

In which case I think there would be no question that the Budapest 'trip' would be enjoyed by all ;)

Vicky Pattison uses a lot of photshop in her pics. Maybe she could give the club a bit of advice in that regard.

Even if I'd written that myself I probably wouldn't agree with it as much as I agree with your version.

I would like Phil to tell me his experiences of team buliding/bonding courses through his work or school life and how they have made him a better person for it. Phil if you don't mind.

To some extent i question the so called training camp jollies...,,,it doesnt look good when the 1st team squad was bulked up by mainly second year apprentices ..which has happened before which is still in most folks memory ..that aside i understand the lads need to bond and gel as a unit, but hang on a moment...
What happens to the other so called players that are supposedly coming in..have we as a club, not dropped another proverbial by going on this jolly too early...or as Pat and co sorted out an all in exclusive 2 for one deal for the boys. lol.

Personally i think they should have waited, seeing as training camps are part of the modern game
How you can go on a training camp trip without key players is beyond me and seems pointless in my eyes and a waste of money
This may seem strange but i can see Hemsworths point of view ( that must be a first ) to some extent...but i guess being the old fart i am we have to move with modern times..and if the latest fad is team building training camps so be it ...who am i to pour cold water on it.

As i said above about missing key players for the squad, does this throw up other questions ...
Was the training camp booked for the time it is because we were under the impression that the first team squad was going to be assembled by now ...
Are we behind in our recruitment process
Are we to take it there will be no more out goings this window
Is the rest that are expected in now going to now be loans , which wont be made available until August time
    Food for thought

This thread like many throws up some interesting points of views opinions and debates are plentiful along with the characters that subscribe to the board...its interesting to note how people perceive the motives of others behind the key board.and then react accordingly ....take this thread for example ...Phil (Hemsworth) posted the original question and all hell breaks out.to some extent..Gally for instance ( and its their board and the power ) warns of a ban..others automatically ( it seems ) then get their backs up and go on the defensive and Phil gets the fall out directed at him.

I agree and have said it many times Phil can be and is his own worse enemy at times but hes entitled to his opinions be that negative or positive ..but in his defense he does stimulate conversation and debate, even though many find that he rubs quite a few on here up the wrong way.
I too get accused of negativity towards the club and perfectly understand why folk go on the defensive straight away when they think theres a slight on the club being made, ( i do it with non Barnsley fans, and im sure theres many more do the same when others try to pull the club ...our club down.. its a no go area...the difference is we can do it because Barnsley is our team in our blood ...thats only the same with whats Phil is doing)

For many the club can do no wrong and many years ago, i was of the same opinion, these days....Well im not wearing rose tinted glasses...those came off many years ago lol

You raise some good points and made a thoughtful well articulated post, had the original post done so in such a way I doubt people would care, but it didn't, and quite honestly there's been too much for most people. When he used the example of Theresa May ducking out of Grenfell to take a shot at the CEO not doing media that was the final straw for me. I'm sure he might mean well, I'm sure that it may not entirely be done with malicious intent, but people are fed up.Two ex-pros (both knwon for hardly being model professionals) offer an opinion which supports his world view and immediately it is brandished at folk, "HAHA, I am right!". I have plenty of time for dissenting opinion, Red Rain makes some fantastic posts here, I disagree a lot but he doesn't make a post then spend the following week trying to force it down you throat.
