Spent a bit of time trying to learn about striker. Well I say a bit of time, more like an hour and it does make sense he would look at clubs in this area. He's from West Yorkshire and came through the Bradford setup.

But the way he plays doesn't fit for me. I was hoping we were going to sign a good all round striker. Think Ashley Flecher, Ivan Toney or even the likes of Abraham.

But to me, he looks a Micheal Smith, George Waring or Peter Crouch type.

Now I don't want to be too negative but watching the video's on him doesn't fill me with any confidence.

Big target man up top is exactly what Bradshaw needs. As for us signing the 'likes' of Abraham... Are you mental? I'm unsure whether I'd take Toney back in if we were in league one, nevermind a league above.

Whens he EVER performed well with a target man. He didn't do well because of the style of football we played. Far too route one front to back for him. No Attacking midfielder and pace from wide men and two attacking full backs.

Abraham... 25k a week Brizzle paid for him.
Fletcher... Easily same at west am. Any loan will mean wages paid by the club renting him.

So that's about 20% of the clubs wage bill on one player...

I'm sorry, what target man are you referring to? I've not seen him play with any one of the sort. "far too route one", well if there's a pass to a big man who can hold up play for him, surely that suits him better?

But that also won't match either imo. He needs that short sharp passing. Take Tom's record out at Walsall and he's scored 27 in 147 games all comp. He CAN hold the ball up but not at head height. He's sharp around the box with instinct but he's not quick.

I for one take your point. If we are looking to him to come in and make an instant impact, that does not look too likely. A good record in the few games he has played for Swansea and Newport; no goals on loan at Bristol Rovers. Great record in the reserves and academy, which shows him to be one who may well come good in the championship in another twelve months. if we are paying cash, I wouldn't go much above £300k. If he is part of a deal involving Yiadom, forget it. Just not a good deal at all. On loan? Possibly a development project and might be worth it. I know we might sign him and he might turn out to be a goal machine straight away, but we shouldn't kid ourselves that he is a ready-made solution. We need a Gallagher, or Woodrow to bring us the goals with a proven record.

Having seen what large forwards did to us last season then a cf good in the air would be a viable option .

NO prem club asks for big wage comp when players go out on loan. Like i've said before Charlie Adam and Joey Barton confirmed this on bbc radio.

How do you know he won't be a Gallagher? 18 games at So'ton, 1 goal. No goals when he went on loan to MK Dons. Hardly anyone on this site had heard of him before his loan move to Blackburn. Same sort of player.

Watch Fletcher in this game. I will say it again I DON'T WANT TO BE TOO HARSH but I don't see it in him. Ivan Toney could run with the ball and be that all-rounder. People critise him but he was good for us imo. In both League and JPT.

sorry for keep posting links to video's but Santa, Can Barnsley have one of these for an early Christmas present

I think this is where GG should be looking at with the European market. We've got plenty of everything else over in the English Leagues.

Take Fletcher's goals record at Barnsley out and he's never scored in league football. 1 in 4 ratio for us I think, 1 in 7 overall league matches. But I accept the point about Fletcher having a good touch, and sharp passing, and his contribution and impact on the team, and strike partners, was immense. No reason why McBurnie can't do the same.

I never saw anything in Toney to convince me he'd be worth a gamble at this level if I'm honest. Always looked clumsy to me.

I can't really comment on McBurnie as I've never seen him play, but like anyone who puts the red shirt on, he'll get my backing and time to show what he can do. The ex pros on our staff must see something?
