Hourihane, Watkins, Scowen, Winnall, Roberts, Bree. And?? These players have been decent yes. But so what? We've had good players that have singlehandedly held the team up and lost them for peanuts in the worst timing ever (Howard, Butterfield, Hammill). Yet we've replaced them and now we have Hecky who can spot a great player a mile off. People saying relegation looms this season are mad. Midtable beckons IMO. We have some more than able players now and the player I'm anticipating being next seasons star is Stevie Mallan.
Who has replaced all those players? There's no replacement for Winnall. Where are the goals coming from?
The point is no one knows that yet. We can hope we will be given the majority of us believe in Hecky but it's going to take to show "we are more than able to cope".
Winnall's last game was the 2-2 draw against Birmingham at Oakwell - in which he scored. After that game we had scored 42 goals in 24 games. We scored 22 in the remaining 22.
Yes I remember he also missed a open net from 6 yard out with a header.. we put 3 past leeds without winnall but with conor. Our style of play totally chaneed for the worse when conor and bree went
Against Birmingham winnall missed a sitter aswell should of scored 2. Our goals drying up was more down to conor going than winnall
We have never lost so many first team players in such a small space of time in our history as far as I'm aware (possibly ww1 and ww2 possibly relegation to L1) We have not sufficiently replaced all players as of yet. If replacements aren't of equal value you are clearly going backwards. We cannot afford to replace Hourihane, Winnall, Watkins or Scowen on a like for line basis. We have made some promising signings though all are untested at Championship level. Of last year's recruitment only Angus can be seen as an unqualified success. Bradshaw did OK. Moncur struggled for the majority of tbe season. Sessi was injured. Payne was injured. Mowatt and Kpekawa were both poor. Recruitment is a tricky thing and a success rate of 50 percent is very difficult. Even tbe ones that may be successful may have a long settling in period. We came into last season confident and with a lot of positive momentum it helped us make a positive start. We enter next season on a post January downward spiral. Momentum means a lot in football. It's like the 'difficult 2nd album' for us music fans. Therefore I think we will have a long season of struggle. With a team that struggles to score but is hard to beat. If Hecky keeps us up they should put a statue of him outside the town hall tbe achievement will be so great. There is still plenty of time to go. I cannot fault our recruitment strategy or tbe dedication of those the club. I don't have any other alternatives I am not going to buy the club. I will be more than happy to be wrong but that's my honest opinion.
We missed Winnall as much as Conor people dont want to admit it cos he's a ****. He had scored 7 in 7 when he left. We have had two 20 goal a season forwards in 41 years. That's how rare it is. All forwards miss chances.
Im not saying we haven't missed winnall or that you or Redstar are wrong. We have missed his goals but for me if winnall went and conor and bree had stayed we would have still had a chance of the play offs in connor's last game we put 3 past leeds I don't think we put 3 past another team for the rest of the season.
Only Villa!!! I take your point Conor, Bree and Morsy made the team tick and dictated the style of play and we looked anaemic without them. I think we missed a goalscorer in tight games like Preston at home and we lacked the cutting edge to turn draws into wins that he could provide.
Yeah my bad forgot villa away!! And agreed they were a couple of games at oa well where I thought how did we not win that preston,Cardiff wigan....
