Roberts - could stay because he's a Barnsley lad and may not want to leave the area. If that was the case - and barring in mind that other clubs are desperate for him - then if I was Patrick I'd try and get him a new contract with as much money as the club could reasonably afford. In other words - push the boat out a bit.
He will no doubt want to go to earn a wage far higher than Barnsley could ever offer. And maybe play in a higher league depending where he signs
Make your mind up pal only 2 days ago you said you didn't mind him going for cheap in jan or free in summer...... as far as I'm aware contracts were offered to watkins angus scowern davies robo yiadom ect.... Davies and angus signed up.
He doesn't need to, but I don't see why he wouldn't want to. The money he's likely to earn at his new club will be much, much more than we could ever offer, unless we did the unlikely, and got promoted. Whether you're from the town or not, you've got to want to better yourself, and ultimately better your finances. Birmingham will be up there next season, with Harry Redknapp and their new owners bankrolling them.
I stick by what I've said in the past about selling the right player at the right time for the right money. And the importance of getting better contracts that benefit both club and player. But in this case I get the feeling that Marc is very reluctant to leave.
You've got to remember Robbos only been earning good money for the last 2 years. He's got a shorter window than most to secure himself financially. The lads done fantastic for us and goes having developed into one of the best CB we've had in the last 20 years. We're also going to get a big fee for him. Good luck Robbo. What do you class as a big fee? Bear in mind it's 2017 and Huddersfield can spend £10 million on a player and they won't even feel it.
Anything above £3 million considering we pick up players valued between £0-£1 million. We're making massive profit compared to what we pay out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Pushing the boat out still wouldn't be enough to compete with Birmingham sadly. This is a club who were rumored to be ready to pay John Terry £100k pw Sent from my WAS-LX1A using Tapatalk
We're only doing the same to other clubs. Also the £3.5m could be ********. I remember the press being well off with the Mawson and Bree fees in particular. We got £5.5m for Mawson who went to the Premier League so even if it is £3.5m for Robbo that's still great business. I don't really know why people are getting so stressed by a figure which may not even be accurate. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The only certainties about the fee are:- 1) It will be undisclosed; 2) It will be a lot less than Robbo is worth to us; and 3) Redknapp will get a nice backhander from it if he goes to Brum.
