People with a sound knowledge of football and business like Hecky and Patrick?

or some of the drama queens in the fanbase?

I'll stick with the former, thanks. Unlike Michael Gove I prefer to pay attention to the experts.
And, yes, there are risks. How can there not be? We're Barnsley not Barcelona. Some people need to get a grip though. To hear them talk you'd think we were run by imbeciles with a deathwish.

Patrick Cryne who runs a business so well that it loses £1m - in a successful season.

Unhelpful and decisive really. Not everything is black and white more shades of grey. Trying to make us all either happy clappers or persistent whingers is completely Stupid and counter productive.

    Nooooo !!!
I'm his biggest critic basically because he needs to find Barnsley another owner.
BUT - I'll always support him - as I believe that he believes he's doing the right thing

I've seen car boot sales run more professionally than our club.

Need to look at the trend though, not just a snapshot of one season, though no disputing the loss. And I'm no accountant so this is very much open to interpretation.

Accounts to May 2014 (relegation season) showed a pre-tax loss of £2 million against turnover of just under £9.4 million. Accounts to end of May 2015 showed a PT loss of £3 million against turnover of £4.8 million, and even included a £3 million reduction in the wage bill.

I haven't seen the full accounts to May 2016, but probably safe to assume turnover similar to end of May 2015, so to achieve a loss of £1 million, the club have got to have got a good grip on costs, so presumably wages reduced further.

I see the relegation season as a step change in the management of the club, and there's clearly plenty of work still to do, but I would argue that there is evidence that the club is being sensibly run, is definitely moving towards living within its means even if not quite there, and the "loss in a successful season" has been ofset by both the higher turnover of being and surviving in the Championship v low wage bill and obviously the transfer income. Presumably we will have a significant cash reserve now, although I'm sure the accountants out there will be offer a more accurate picture of how our recent financial windfalls are accounted for, possibly over the longer term.

I would suspect there's some "artistic" accountancy involved here CT. As I commented on a separate thread
when you sit down with your Accountant at the end of the financial year he/she will ask you what you want your bottom line
to show.! If you want to show a loss they will achieve that by writing down your assets using depreciation and other
    financial "tools" at their disposal.
Show a profit and you only get taxed so it might be best to show a negative result.

Yeah you often see the club stting up trestle tables on the pitch when we sign players.
Come on pal.... I rarely disagree with folks on here.
But to say that we are run worse than car boot sales? Really?
We are an average sized club, trying to compete with huge cities and foreign owners to deliver a pleasurable football experience to our loyal support base.
I for one think the club is in good, safe and experienced hands.
This is our club, our reds, our Barnsley.

Grinds my gears when people criticise PC. He's a dying man that saved our club. Without him we wouldn't have a club to support. Of course there is always room for improvement in any business but I believe that the club is being run in the right way. Folk seem to forget dropping change into collection buckets outside the ground to try and keep the club afloat.

It's what I experienced RED. I used to take our books in and the first question was "what do you want
to reflect here a slight profit or a loss.?" If you know anything to the contrary I would be pleased to hear your
views but I have always believed that was the reason that businesses and folk with real money employed them.!

The accountancy profession is not the grubby self seeking world that you suggest in your post. It is governed by strict rules and regulations, accounting standards and professional ethics. In order to qualify as a member one of the professional bodies which together run and ensure that professional standards are maintained, you must have a university education and you still have to go through 3 years of training and examinations. To suggest that it operates to the same standards as might be encountered if you visited a witch doctor is to misunderstand and totally misrepresent the profession. What you did in your original post is you suggested inside knowledge or something that in fact you have absolutely no knowledge of and in doing so you undermined the work of those who work in that profession. I am sure that GibsonBooth, the auditor of the accounts of Barnsley Football Club would be appalled to discover their work and reputation being undermined in such a casual manner.

My misses runs a small business her accountant was pretty much aghast that we didn't want to look at any methods of minimising tax and just wanted to declare everything and pay everything we earned. My experience is close to DR than RR I'm afraid.

Are you suggesting that BFC is a small business, or that GibsonBooth do not operate within the rules and regulations that govern the accountancy profession?

I am suggesting that they will be better at what they do than smaller accountants.
