Darren Barnard was another if I remember correctly. To Southampton.

We've bought 5. And have an offer in for at least 2 more if you believe reports.

We are still several players short though, that is very true.

To be picky, unless my maths is incorrect, we've released 2 of the 7 you referred to previously.

I meant we need eighteen in a match day squad and law of averages would say you would have to buy one or two. Regardless of the level we are at.

Nowt to do with maths. It's how you differentiate between releasing and losing.

    Fair enough.

You could make the same argument I suppose for the players in the aforementioned 95/96 squad.

It doesn't quite work like that tho' in my opinion. Player's agent approaches club 'Player Y will sign a new contract at £x per week'. Club have a wage structure that means £x is twice what our current highest earner receives. Club decide they're not prepared to stretch the budget, ergo no contract offer transpires.

    Law of averages?
If you don't want to spend money on transfer fees then you don't. There's plenty of potential free signings about. Instead we're speculating to accumulate by paying transfer fees for better players or players with greater potential. It's got nothing to do with averages.

So it's possible to have a squad full of free transfers? Ok.

Ambition would have been keeping hourihane/bree in January when we were 7th and letting them go for free in the summer if we didn't get promoted. Club showed what they were about then.

Don't give bs they wouldn't have stayed cos those two were actually professional unlike Sammy the snake.

My memory of that time isn't the greatest. I was 9 like and passed off that my parents made me go to a match on a Friday night when I just wanted to watch Robot Wars. We beat Huddersfield 7-1 that night.

Can't begin to comprehend that we haven't offered new deals. It's no coincidence that it's our most consistent performers who are the ones who have moved on.!

To my mind that's probably due in the main down to the fact that what we were prepared to offer and what their suitors could offer were poles apart.!

I'll wager that in two years time we will be probably be posting the self same comments about McGeehan, Lindsay and Pinnock. ! Until we become in PC's own words " self sufficient" or we are sold to someone with the cash to consolidate and/or
improve our squad our current policy of signing hungry young players from the lower leagues and selling them on later
for profit looks set to continue.

Weren't we offered cash and Carlton Palmer as part of the deal? Barnard did turn the move down though.
