Hindsight is a great thing many on here didn't think our players could make the step up. Many halifax fans doubted robo could make the step up to league one when we signed him. Same with andy yiadom. I don't know if sam and conor were offered new deals the club said they were then conor said he wasn't I'm not too bothered now. I believe robo and andy yiafom were though at the same time as angus davies watkins and josh.
It was so obvious that we had a special group of players . That doesn't happen very often at bfc . Improved contacts was a no brained .
I wouldn't put Winnall under the lazy category to be honest He was know by most barnsley fans as a work horse Not sure why anyone would say differently just because he's left Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yet again. The only way they were going to sign new contracts was if we'd offered them £20k to £25k a week. Do you really think we can afford that plus similar sized increases the rest of the team would have been demanding? There is absolutely no way this club can afford to get anywhere near the contracts big city clubs in this division can offer. Why on earth can't people recognise that? It's not like it's a new thing. This has been BFC's predicament for 100 years.
He was off the moment he heard about the offer from Wednesday, refused to train. He was never ever going to sign a new contract with us at any point whilst he was here
Absolutely. It's easy to band about 'offer new contracts' as if the club are the only party involved. It's up to the player to sign, and I very much doubt we had the financial muscle to offer what they wanted. Especially when you consider we didn't have money in from any sales at that point
This has all come from an account on twitter, created two days ago, with about 600 followers. Don't believe everything you see..
So last summer following promotion from L1 none of the players we have lost would have signed for less than 20 grand a week. Come on that's just not true. Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fan Forum mobile app
Is it not about time we let the Winnall thing go? He worked hard and played pretty well for us. But he wasn't as good as some make out. He isn't worth anything like the wage Wednesday gave him. Which is why they want rid. He had a good goal scoring record yes, but he missed a lot of chances too. And not tough chances - everyone misses but he missed loads. He happened to just get a lot of opportunities from Hourihane and wide areas. It is those we miss more - the only reason Winnall was missed hugely is that we didn't get a replacement of any real sort. Hourihane in particular did have a replacement, a very good one in matty James, probably a better footballer but with nothing like Hourihane's goal scoring or assist ability. He is the one player we missed most after January in my opinion. He also left, but in a much classier way and I hope he would get a fantastic reception from all Bfc fans as and when he comes back to the well for villa or anyone else. Winnall threw the toys out of the pram and acted like an overpriveleged spoilt brat. I wouldn't want him anywhere near the club, even if he said he'd take a grand a week. It looks like mcburnie is coming in. I imagine there will be at least one more striker too. As for Sam Winnall, he might do well at Birmingham. Not too fussed - though I suspect he might end up bench warming when Harry realises he needs much better, and will be back in league one within 12-18 months. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I don't think he's "cost" us very much to be fair. OK we didn't achieve his full value compared to similar players when he left, but that doesn't mean we've lost anything on him, because we didn't have it to lose. It was just estimated value. We didn't pay much for him, and probably didn't pay him a great deal, yet he was our top scorer for a couple of seasons and brought value to the club by helping win a trophy and a promotion. In terms of deals, some you win, some you lose. Villa did very well with Hourihane, Bree to a lesser extent, but up to now the Brentford lad is looking like an expensive gamble. You can't have it your own way all the time. It doesn't work like that. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
Hecky isn't in charge of the finances. We were timid it cost us dearly. Whether that was Linton's fault or the boards I don't know. Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fan Forum mobile app
The thing is Jimmy the finances thing is irrelevant. We cannot get anywhere near the deals players like Hourihane can command from the likes of Villa so there's no use in bashing the club for not having ambition. I want a Rolls Royce but there's no point going down the showroom and suggesting they let me have one for the price of a Volvo.
