Obviously this time last year we were so full of hope but we were all let down by shortcomings at the club, or so we imagine.
This nouveau monsieur comes in and suddenly things seem to be looking up. Do you think he has been given the remit to stabilise the club, player-wise?
A few weeks ago we were all in despair about not surviving the new season, relegation a cert, but since he has arrived most of this worry has ceased, at least for the time being. New players are coming in on three year deals so if they prove to be world beaters then they will increase in value no end.
The feel good factor seems to be returning.

Not having a go but I don`t feel I was let down by the Club.
At the same time I am starting to look forward to the new season and seeing where the new players and Hecky will take us.

I think we will do ok again this coming season. 14th or higher will be fine again. But as per usual the bookies have us down again as relegation certs, I am just fine with that as its great to see them proven totally wrong. A couple more permanent signings then 3 - 5 loans will set us up for the coming term.

No doubt he's took a lot of the weight from Heckingbottom's shoulders, and I'm sure he's having an impact with some of the new signings being brought in. This time of year is generally the busier time for transfers, though - players returning from holidays and starting pre-season training.

We've certainley seen a huge difference in terms of incomings. He seems a more honest figure than ******** Ben too.

On the face of it it does seem like he has made a difference, but i suspect we would have got the deals over the line without him. Hecky is the one that is selling the club to the players, and even though the appointment will have taken a lot of things away from him, im sure he would have got all the things done regardless.

The big plus point for me is that Hecky can now concentrate on his actual duties of Head Coach (a job he is exceptionally talented at).

Highly unlikely that these deals were not in the pipeline. Before he arrived

I imagine that the club has been preparing since January because our last window definitely wasn't one of our best. I certainly believe that he is helping though.

I don't see the difference other than 3 year deals but that's Patrick's choice.

Doubt he's the sole difference (see the other day, and the guy who apparently backed out after being told what was expected by Hecky), but him being there is probably making the club look a bit more professional. Which will impress players that little bit more and maybe give us the edge?

Well I'm more worried than I've ever been. I wonder if everyone will be so happy clappy if all these lower league players take us in to a relegation fight.

I can see the same happy clappers jumping all over the players if they find the transition from Forest Green Rovers or Luton a bit tricky at first.

I think the new CEO hasn't made his mark yet.
Ok - he has helped secure targets that were already in place by the recruitment team - but we haven't seen any new players being brought to the club from his connections on the continent.
And until that happens then we may has well have appointed an English CEO.

We have not kicked a ball in anger yet this season so personally Mr B I sincerely believe it's premature to say we will not survive the season or class us as relegation certainties. The recruitment process did not start the day Gauthier walked through the door. To my mind our backroom team must have provided him with a list of targets who's moves to play for Barnsley were in train and he's now acting as the "completer finisher" to get the deals over the line knowing in advance the amount that Patrick is prepared to sanction to bring each transaction to a satisfactory conclusion.

It was disappointing what happened in January especially as we were on the fringes of challenging for the plays offs.
However and again from a personal perspective I don't feel I have any right to question Patrick Crynes motives then or for what has happened since. Given that he is terminally ill I find myself asking "are contingency plans being laid for the future.?"

Whatever that future holds for us for what's happened since he took the reins we owe PC a massive debt of gratitude for
both preserving the Club and getting us to the position we found ourselves in at the end of season 2016/17.

Patrick made the funds available to bring the players in that we needed. Because the fees we pay are often undisclosed we can't put an accurate value on the final amount. We sold Winnowt to Wednesday, Watkins has gone for free to Norwich, Bree and Hourihane to Villa, Scowen to QPR for free and Roberts to Birmingham.

Like us those teams now have the capability to strengthen for the new season. I firmly believe that the success of any team lies in the capability of the Manager and his fellow coaches to "tease" the best out of the players at his disposal.
As far as I am concerned self motivation, team spirit and togetherness and not solely money are the keys to the ultimate
    success of any football team.

As I've said we can't accurately assess the value of each squad but from figures I've been attempting to research consider the following:

Sheffield Wednesday -Position 4th 81 points - spend £9.95 million.
    Norwich City. - Position 8th 70 points - spend £42.73 million.
    Aston Villa. - Position 13th 62 points - spend £ 76.65 million.
    Barnsley. - Position. 14th 58 points- spend £ 2.10 million.
    QPR. - Position 18th 53 points - spend £7.10 million.
    Birmingham. - Position. 19th 53 points- spend £ 8.20 million.

Villa spent approximately £74 million more than us to finish 4 points in front of us.!!

We now look on course to probably triple what we spent last season so I personally don't feel that it's unreasonable to expect we can at least equal or better the outcome of what we accomplished last season because I firmly believe that the players we have signed thus far at their current stage of development having experienced representative football for their respective countries initially appear at first sight to be more promising than the players we have let go.

Listening to our new CEO on Radio Sheffield the other day he sounds very good and I'm sure he will add a lot to our back office in the future. If by taking the lead in recruitment he takes the weight off Hecky to concentrate on what's happening on the grass that surely can only augur well for our future.
