Makes me think he is not coming as surely Hecky would have wanted him in place in time for the training camp in Hungary. While I am not too bothered about this as such, as I think some were getting carried away with him, any striker(s) we do bring in will only have three weeks with the squad before the season kicks off. I am actually starting to think we won't sign a permanent striker before the season starts. ** THIS IS NOT A DIG AT THE CLUB - IT IS JUST A POINT FOR DISCUSSION
I agree with you & I have said all along that I think the strikers we recruit will be loan players as the cost for strikers are always top dollar. I believe that once the premier clubs have sorted out their squads, some of their fringe players will become available & thats when we will see new arrivals in the striker department.
I'm pretty certain that we'll see at least one new striker in the next couple of weeks. Can see one of our options being a loan deal so won't expect that one to happen until later in the window. I would rather wait and get the right player. Worst case scenario is we start the first few games with Bradshaw, Payne and Brown all competing for what looks like will be a lone striker role. Not the end of the world if that's the case.
I would've thought we'll bring in one striker on a permanent deal and another in on loan. I can potentially see us only playing with 1 striker this season (given the amount of creative midfielders we have) so I think 4 would be a decent amount to have with Brown hopefully kicking on too.
I think we'll probably get 1 in permanent and 1/2 on loan. To be honest the loan option might be the best one for a striker when players like Bogle go for £1m+ it seems daft to try. Plus there don't seem to be any stand out, obvious players out there that we could afford like Bradshaw last year.
We'll go down if we don't sign a striker. Need some in asap, 2 or 3 ideally. Fletcher on loan would be the dream. Plus McBurnie on a permanent and another that I've never heard of. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Id say Swansea will be wanting to take a look see how much progress he's made...or not Then they will decide on whether to keep, loan or sell.... again depending on what Swansea think is best for them..
I think we'll be looking abroad for a striker. I can't think of many strikers already over here being available
I agree it's troubling if we go a full season with just those three but that's just not going to be the case. Also, think we aim to share goals across the team. Huddersfield, Fulham and Wednesday had great seasons and none had a striker scoring more than 13 goals in all comps.
Which one.. am seeing double. Trouble is that everyone knows we have dosh in the bank, and they'll want a share... One of the down sides to selling players for decent profit ...
You're being very generous with your half there. Even Gareth Williams, who was about a fifth of a striker at best, managed a strike rate that the Peruvian fox in the box could only have dreamed of.
I wouldn't mind getting 2 loan strikers in on season long deals with their wages heavily subsidised. Surely you will get a better quality striker that way than risking a whacking great big transfer fee and the pressure that would bring in front of a fickle oakwell crowd.
I'd be happy with 2 strikers in on loan and 1 permanent. Problem is there aren't too many stand-out options from English lower leagues within our remit: Sharp was top scorer in League One last year who we'd obviously never sign for a number of reasons; in League Two Marquis would be a possibility but when mentioned here yesterday wasn't an overly popular name. Unlike last year when top scorers in League One included Bradshaw and Armstrong plus Winnall there are a lot fewer stand out options this year. Whoever we eventually sign, the best way of judging how good they're going to be is by seeing how they actually play. Many on here thought Winnall wouldn't get many goals in the Championship for example
As Jack BFC says in his posting on " To-days Chronicle" Mc Burnie deal not yet dead although Llorente's broken his arm so they might need Mac as cover. Potts deal looks to be "cooling". GG remains hopeful that we can get Fletcher in on loan from the Hammers. Strikers will have to be signed. We can't go with Bradshaw and Payne up front surely.?
