    I wont knock the OP of this thread, but Im a pessimist and refuse to believe this sort of thing until a pen has been put to paper etc.
    But Id be delighted if we could tempt Ashley back here for another loan, and if we're going to do it lets not make it for just a piddly few months, lets do it for the whole season.

    West Ham are in discussions with Bayer Leverkusen to sign former Man Utd forward
    Javier Hernandez. The fee being bandied around is £13 million. The player apparently
    wants £140k per week which will make him their top earner ahead of Andy Carroll.

    If the deal goes through it seems increasingly likely that the Iron will then allow Ashley Fletcher to
    go out on loan which adds credence to the claim in Fridays Chronicle that the Reds
    are looking to bring him back to Oakwell.

    If they are going to loan him out pretty much most championship clubs would be interested so still think it would be highly unlikely he ends up at Barnsley again.

    I'm not building my hopes up. Just going on our CEO's statement that he is " on the list".
    He has family in West Yorkshire ( Keighley lad) and has played for us before so that might count for
    something but as others have rightly said he is probably on the wish list of other Championship clubs
    who can pay a lot more.

    That's right. They were formed in 1895 as Thames Ironworks and were re-named West Ham United in 1900.
    They are therefore known as the Iron(s), the Hammers ( because of the shipbuilding rivet hammers on their club crest) or
    as the Academy of football.

    The Iron is well old skool. Only anyone over 93 refers to them as that. I assume you are looking forward to your telegram from the queen soon?

    In terms of the original thread, I'd agree it's unlikely, but if they want him getting first team football & quality coaching, then some deal may be possible on wages. If we had him up to Chrimbo it would give others time to hit the ground running, so may be considered a price worth paying.

    Hmm, ok - I never knew that. Always been known as the Hammers as far as I am concerned, and used to play at the Boleyn Ground/Upton Park.

    I'm sure that no one ever uses that old nickname.

    If there is some truth in this, does it signal a change in wages policy with respect to loan players? We know that £4k is the ceiling for first teamers here with maybe it a bit more for captaincy, but I reckon that we have received somewhere near £25 million in transfer fees since the Stones money rolled in. That would mean that, for a loanee, we could pay a lot more than £4k against that total in the bank. As a policy that would work and would not plunge the club towards financial crisis. Forty weeks at £20k per week for a season-long loan would set us back £800k, which would be possible, given the coffers we have built.

    So, could Ash genuinely be on his way. Maybe more of a possibility than we might think.

    Isn't the issue more that the £800k is basically lost money with no return? Were as if you purchased a player for £800k, we would have the chance to sell him and recoup some/all/make a profit from the player...

    Surely, with any wages we pay out to loan players, the return we get , is the players contribution on the pitch, ie, Brownhill, Fletcher & Isgrove were very instrumental in getting us promotion & therefore providing a return on the wages invested.
