Whenever I used to attend our pre-season friendlies I used to get the feeling that the players were using the games purely as "looseners ". Playing against non league opposition is also never easy and can pose a risk as the opposition can be a bit over zealous especially with regards to some of their tackles. Guiseley fielded a number of trialists tonight. Did you get the impression that some of them were playing flat out to try to win a contract.? What impression did you come away with BL , were our boys putting it all in or did they just seem to be using it as a chance to get some meaningful competitive game time.? It didn't help that we had only one specialist striker on the team. Hopefully it might improve if we get a couple in for when we play our next game. I remain optimistic that when it gets to the real thing and we're playing for points and win bonuses the players will step up to the mark or on tonight's showing from what you saw do you feel that optimism is misplaced and that we should start to worry , or could it be too early for that.?
Unsurprisingly the players who stood out most were those who have been at the club the longest: Moncur, MacDonald, Yiadom, Mowatt, D'Almeida, Hammill (despite his inability to release the ball), Jackson (despite an error for their 2nd goal). Hedges was very lively and energetic and had a good game. The rest weren't 'off the mark', just finding their feet, including half a dozen U23s. Davies, McGeehan and Lindsay all missing, who I would imagine will all end up in the starting eleven. Can't really judge anything so early on though - more a training exercise.
