Best views in Yorkshire

    Got me thinking, my travels to various places for work give me some spectacular views.

    Woodhead Rd between Grenoside and Wortley - on a good day you can see across to Nottinghamshire in the South,over to Humberside, and bits of North and West Yorkshire.

    Yesterday I took a back-route between Holmfirth and Penistone. There's a point up there where you can see across Huddersfield into Lancashire (towards Rochdale, Burnley etc), and looking the other way over across Barnsley/ Sheffield towards Scunthorpe etc. Huge panorama.

    Lovely part of the world to live and work in, and yet people scoff at places 'up North.

    The view from my back garden takes some beating.
    But my favourite view is from the balcony at Old Moor.
    Cup of coffee - binoculars on the table - sorted.

    One if the best views in this area is the view from outside the cherry tree

    A view without movement soon becomes boring.

    I like the view from the rocks on top of the old pit stack overlooking Cortonwood. Over the top of the shops you can see over to Great Houghton and Thurnscoe. The other way you get the valley over Hemmingfield to Elsecar/Hoyland and the fields towards Wentworth. Not as spectacular as the views on the other side of town, but its a 10 minute walk from home.

    My son and his wife have a cottage in Holmfirth. Their garden is stepped on four levels and is built into
    the vertical rock face of a small cliff behind their house.

    It's a gradual climb of around 80 feet on a narrow footpath up to the top. Nothing better on a sunny day than
    to take some tinnies up with you and sit in the sun on their bench and take in the views of the trees, hills, valleys and the
    Pennines in the far distance.

    Also the view from High Hoyland when you pass the Cherry Tree pub and throw a left down the hill on the way
    to Cannon Hall is also absolutely breathtaking.!

    Hadn't seen FIRED's comment about High Hoyland. Glad you agree.

    Working alot in Holmfirth and Holmbridge at the moment. The drive over from Sheffield is lovely. Came bak via Holme Moss a few weeks ago. Stunning.

    I have been surprised at the number of picturesque little hamlets in and around that area.
    Lot of cozy little pubs where you can get a nice cheap meal and a pint of real ale.

    Other great views for me are in North Yorkshire re- from the summit of Ingleborough Fell,
    Malham Tarn and in and around the Bowland Forest.

    Little carpark at top of Holme Moss.


    Further afield is from the top of Dow Cragg near Coniston.

    Further than that is at the top of Tibidabo in Barcelona.

    I love Holmfirth. Last time i went was last summer just when autumn was starting to arrive. It was a nice warm day but with a cool breeze. I wandered up the big slope where the houses are on the hill and had a look towards Holme Moss and over the woodlands. Yorkshire makes you feel like you belong and has a way of speaking to your soul at times

    The pub at Holmbridge (The Old Bridge) has its own brewery. .... and I'm driving every time I go there! doh!

    They reckon there are more acres of land in Yorkshire than there are words in the Bible.!

    Another place where you can get a great view is from the Woolley Edge viewing platform looking out
    towards Emley Moor. That takes some beating.

    I think we are spoilt, especially around Barnsley too. Royd Moor, either looking uo at it, or down from it is stunning.

    I love the view of Filey Bay from the country park, the view from Holme Moss. Seriously, one of the lovely things about getting into cycling a few years ago is seeing the stunning scenery in our county and having time to take it in. Couple of pics below.

    Also love the views in the Dales, Malham Cove and the view of Ribblehead Viaduct.

    On a clear day you can see Barnsley Hospital and the floodlight pylons at the " Shrine." Fantastic view.

    Sheffield Road A61 going past worsbrough res towards Birdwell overlooking the hills looking towards Cannon Hall, Emley moor. Brilliant. Can't beat it in a sunny day on the way home from sheffield

    I live just down the road from there on High Hoyland Lane, you just dont notice it after a while believe it or not.
