Best views in Yorkshire

Oh and it's not a bad little boozer either

 

When our three lads were growing we used to take them there ( Cherry Tree) for Sunday dinner. Good snap and a
nice pint I recall. Some great places in and around the area. My folks were up from Brum last week.
We took them to the 3 Acres at Roydhouse , Shelley. Bit pricey mind, but excellent food and
a cracking pint of Timothy Taylor's Landlord.

The Sovereign at Shelley, the Woodman off Huddersfield Road at Thunderbridge and if you like your
Indian the Bengal Spice in Holmfirth are all well worth a visit.

 

My mate talks about. A place out Holmfirth way called crag rats never found it though

I *think* Crag Rats is on the A616 road from The Flouch to Holmfirth. Just outside Hepworth.

 

Spiced Pear is nice.

I think the original Crag Rats went into receivership. I'm not 100% sure but I think I saw
something in their brochure to suggest that the owners of the Woodman at Thunderbridge
were connected with Crag Rats in someway.

Best view in Barnsley (IMO) is from Rob Royd farm shop car park of the countryside around Worsbro' up to Stainborough Hall and the Dark Peak in the back ground

 

For urban views, Bole Hill Park in Sheffield is amazing, just for its surprise factor. You walk down a residential city road, go off the pavement through a little gate, and suddenly you're in a park with a view right across the Rivelin Valley. Totally cool and unexpected.

 

When I worked in Sheffield, my favourite run was up the Rivelin Valley and back over the A57 and down past the Uni/Hospitals. Unfortunately it would kill me now.

 

The approach to Whitby after Saltergate never let's me down.

 

A lot are quite rightly personal and subjective. I like standing at the top of Arctic Parade in Bradford and looking down on row after row of terraced houses (I was born in one). The view was better when there were a multitude of mill chimneys. They are long gone but it is still a view that defines me. Similarly the view from the Dove on Donny Rd looking down to the ground, a view that always inspires, but not in the way it did when I used to park there in the early 80s and the same view was interspersed with pits and big metal wheels (and smoke from chimnies).
I love standing up the hill in West Burton and looking down Bishopdale. Cycling round the dales I could name dozens of views that take the breath away. And we have one of the most stunning coastlines anywhere in the world. We are fortunate to live in such a picturesque place

I like the view over Bradford from the farm shop near the imaginatively named "Mountain" between Queensbury and Thornton. Urban views can be just as good as rural ones.

 

Live right next to Rivelin valley in Walkley and the views from my balcony are wonderful. The nature trail running alongside the river Rivelin is also well worth doing.

 

Agreed, go up there every summer.

 

Yorkshire has everything - rural countryside, wild moors, mountains, forests, cliffs, lakes and tarns, beaches, farmland, towns, cities. It's a fabulous combination and is the reason why I designed my Wild Yorkshire Way long distance walk to take it all in (well, not the towns and cities!).

My favourite view in Barnsley is from Worsborough Common looking down onto Worsborough Res and the hill going up to Birdwell and over to Blacker Hill to the left above it. My parents were from Ward Green and when I went to see grandparents as a kid I used to gawp at it.

A mate said the view from the top of Locke Park Tower is brilliant but I've never done it.
