In relation to the fact every football fan at the time wad considered to be a hooligan a or potential hooligan - it"s why were all nearly issued with ID cards to attend a game - are football fans in general to blame?
Cheers I wasn't sure what you were replying to. Well the easiest way to answer that is to ask you whether Yaveed Nasin is to blame for the bins being removed at meadowhall? To explain you will probably have a nice idea who he is but Hes a Muslim and all Muslims are wrongly treated with suspicion because some Muslims are terrorists. Bins have been removed from meadowhall in response to the terror threat. That is similar to your situation isn't it? You are not a hooligan but were treated as such because of others who you had something in common with. Fences were put up because of the risk due to them. Now if you say that he was to blame (as a Muslim in general) for bins being removed then that's a bit daft considering he's a surgeon who spent hours trying to save the lives of children after the Ariana Grande concert. If you say no he obviously wasn't to blame then why would you think you are? Nobody has ever suggested that innocent law abiding football fans are to blame for hooligans causing fences to be put up. I'm not sure why you seem to think they are
His argument is that the authorities feked up and used a cheap and deadly solution to fans fighting ,despite all the warnings and being told about possible alternate solutions and fans must take some responsibility for this inept decision.
When I fist went to Oakwell in the 50s with home crowds averaging in the high teens, the only policeman I saw was PC Bill Harber at the top of Ponty Road directing the traffic.
When I first went at the start of the '70's fans still changed ends at half time. I remember my first away game at Rotherham where home and away fans were all mixed in together in the terraces alongside the pitch - bit like Rugby still is Im just baffled by the arguments in this thread. How anyone can argue that the fences were not a result of hooligan behavior is completely beyond me
Read the thread . At no point do I say the fences weren't erected because of hooliganism . That was supertyke retort to every post I made to twist it to his agenda Show me the post where I said the fences weren't erected because of hooliganism.!! I said that hooliganism wasn't the cause of Hillsborough as did the judge .
