That seems a fair assessment. As others have said, Sam Winnall only had one decent season at the fourth level of football before we signed him and he did very well for us. I've only seen Marquis' goals on Channel 5, haven't watched Doncaster Rovers in the flesh if you will, so have no idea what his all round game is like. This is assuming we do sign the lad.
He seems to fit the bill in terms of what we have done in the past. I like that he is apparently a hard working striker which is half of the battle. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
Understand that Ipswich and Bristol City also have designs on him. Mixed comments from Donny fans from what I can see. Some saying he won't join us because we pay players on a par with what they pay, whilst others are asking why would he want to join a Club that will struggle and probably be in the bottom three by Christmas.! They really are a deluded lot Donny fans. They'll struggle next season.
Some belting comments on there They want 2.5 million for him? We pay same wages as them? Dear me. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
I certainly wouldn't pay daft money for the lad when we've already got Bradshaw on board with a better pedigree. If he comes, I'll support him like I do everyone else but it seems like he's the new bogle that everyone went leet over with little substance.
I think that he is at a very similar stage to Sam Winnall when he moved to us. Definitely has the technical ability, is proven at League Two level and is at an age at which he should develop further. Looks good to me, but it might take a season to get the best out of him at Championship level.
Doncaster expect him to sign a new contract before tomorrow nights friendly. So we can put that one to bed.
http://www.doncasterfreepress.co.uk...with-striker-john-marquis-this-week-1-8652268 Says here this morning that Donny expect him to sign a new deal before tomorrow night!!!
Depends how bad we want him now then, we still have 24 hours to get a bid in. Looking like we will have to persue other options now though. Damn.
They are all like their fan Derek who rings in to speak garbage on Radio Dee Dar....DELUDED.! Hope they get relegated.
I don't understand them, I've mates who are Weds & Utd fans saying how brilliant we are at turning these cheap buys & academy lads into multi million pound footballers and how good we are at spotting a player - then you read that forum, from a team that's just come up from the bottom division and you think we've been playing in a different footballing world. Mawson, Hourihane, Roberts - nearly £15 million from an outlay of less than a million, possibly £2 million more from a sell on for Mawson. From our own academy Stones, Bree & Holgate just over £13 million and more to come from appearances and sell ons. £30 million from next to nothing, £20 million in the past few seasons. You can't fault the model at the moment.
He'd also just flopped at Hibernian and looked like he was about to disappear in to the abyss of "could've been something special" until we picked him up.
Yes and go home with the 9 others who have made that joke thus summer Sent from my WAS-LX1A using Tapatalk
