Why do people quote win percentages? Shouldn't it be average points per game? I'm guessing you got this off sky because they always quote them for some bizarre reason. Manager A wins 3 games draws 1 and loses 6 his win % is 30% Manager B wins 2 games draws 7 and loses 1 his win % is 20% Who is the better manager? The one with 10 points and the better win % or the one with the most points further up the table?
Putting aside HTs blind spot about Hecky in general terms I agree with him though of course you can't evaluate the signings we have just made. Looking at permanent signings only The recruitment under Johnson that resulted in us signing Manson, Roberts and Watkins and Townend was very strong and a good 8/10. Last summer we recruited Bradshaw, Yiadom, Angus, Sessi, Moncur, Kepweka, Jackson the hit rate from those signings thus far is pretty poor but this may change during the coming season. Still 6/10 seems fair. January recruitment was Mowatt and Hedges whilst it's perfectly feasible they will come good at this stage 4/10 is about right. This season we have ploughed the same furrow for signings and got in some pretty interesting players all with potential. Impossible to say whether it's good or bad at this stage. I can see why HT may think it's uninspired. Others may think it inspired. Either way only time will tell. A managers lives and dies by the players he signs. Despite our much vaunted recruitment strategy the players we have sold recently and who have starred and moved on were all signed by Wilson or Johnson. Of Hecky's signings only McDonald and Yiadom can be seen as a 'success' though I am not writing anyone off as a failure as there is plenty of time for that to change. None of this means I think Hecky is a poor manager. I think he's the bees knees. None of this means that I think Johnson is a good one I wouldn't trust him to manage my daughters under 6 team. I just think it's easy to react against HT without considering the ( sometimes) valid points he makes. Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fans Forum
Partially agreed!!!!! He will try to fall out with me soon. Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fan Forum mobile app
Valid points like whingeing we've only made one signing this week when it was suggested we'd make more.... on Tuesday? If we live in a two day week then I think the weekends will be fun. He's a wind up merchant searching for bites. He knows how much Hecky is rated by the majority of posters on here so differs to dip the bait. I've never known one person be clearly proven wrong so many times on various things yet never man up and admit it. But we all still bite. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm not here to defend him. He can do that himself. I don't necessarily think he's wrong about the signings made in the last 2 windows though time may prove him wrong on that too. I certainly think it's a reasonable point for discussion on what up is meant to be a discussion board ( whether you agree or disagree). Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fan Forum mobile app
Look at the home games immediately prior to Wilson's sacking. The caretaker games under Hecky and Burton. Ended with the Voventry game where Waring scored. After the Initial winning run goals and performances deteriorated til we hammered Rochdale in the last game of the season.
I'm not taking the bait. I've just had a lovely tea. ! A nice win for the Reds and a good showing from a lot of our new boys to-night might provide answers to our fears/ realistic hopes for the future. Some Snooker buffs argue that technically Stephen Hendry (7 titles) was a better player than Joe Davis ( 15 titles). That's rubbish the balls used by Joe were different to those used now in that they were heavier and you couldn't do as much with them ( check side, swerve etc) as you can with the modern snooker balls. Was Ali a better pound for pound fighter than Joe Louis or Rocky Marciano.? We'll never know. To my mind it's therefore unfair to compare Johnsons record with Hecky's as there are a lot of different factors including the weather and the decisions that the officials could make that could affect each 90 minute game.!
Danny Wilson would make an excellent scout but is out of his depth in modern day management and tactics.
