Yeah think we might have to be less stringent if we are planning to move forward with the plan and actually challenge further up the table. However, as you mentioned, larger investment doesn't also equate to greater quality - with it being argued that perhaps some of our best recent signings have cost us very little (e.g. yids, roberts). Will be an interesting next few months.
Dunt really matter what I say to be fair. If we are sitting 24th in the table there are folk on here who would swear blind that the plan is working or it is the only way forward and the club have no other option.
You have written extensively on the subject of our strategy/plan and you have made it quite clear what your opinion is, which you have every right to do. You clearly have the club's success at heart, which we all do. What I have not seen from (and I may have missed it amongst many dozens of posts) is a viable and coherent alternative strategy for a club of our size. I would be very interested to hear it.
I think we need to do the succession-planning a little better in future, so that not so many contracts are due to terminate at the same time. The person I feel most for at this precise moment is Hecky, who has lost too many of the players with whom he had made such a positive bond, so he now has the responsibility for developing the new crew into an effective team quickly enough for us to make a strong start to the campaign. We have signed the right players, apart from the much-touted strikers. it could be a slow start, though, until the quality starts to shine through. I hope that the board are supporting Hecky, even if they cannot easily do so financially, because he must feel the weight of his task, especially without the strikers he needs over the team-building period. Great coach and manager. You can do it again, Hecky. Go for it.
