Sorry about the source, but Martin Allen has done an article for the Mail about, amongst other things his ex players that are going onto better things, or other League 2/non League talents that he spotted and tried to get Championship clubs to take. This is what he had to say about 'ar Yids: GO ON MY SON It comes as no surprise that my former Barnet captain Andy Yeadom, who moved to Barnsley when his contract ran out, has clubs from the Premier League now chasing him. When I first arrived at Barnet, Andy was just a squad player, hardly playing and in-and-out of the team. But he's chirpy, enthusiastic, has self-belief, is willing to work and not afraid of the extra required. He can play right-back, central midfield, right wing, or, when we needed a goal, I used to put him up front alongside our main man Akinde. How many managers did I tell at Championship level two years ago to sign him when it was clear he would not sign a new contract with us? The best thing I liked about him was that I would ask him into my office to talk about team selection, training and generally if the group of players were OK. On more than one occasion he would have a go at me and tell me, face-to-face, we're not doing enough of this, we're not doing enough of that, I don't know why we're doing this and I don't know why we're doing that. I thought that boy's got guts and for the last few months of the season I nicknamed him Son. Seems to have a lot of respect for the lad! Also has a lot to say about John Akinde and says he can't believe no one at our level has taken a chance on a striker that has scored a goal ever 1.7 games (82 goals in 142 games)...
Akinde is one striker i'd like us to get from lower leagues. Unless they're asking for stupid money then i dont see why we don't go in for him.
Thanks for this, an interesting piece on Yids, but you needn't apologise about your source, the Mail. You wouldn't have a Guardianista apologising for quoting from that paper.
Your right he doesn't have to apologize at all but I can understand why he has and respect to him. Thanks for posting C E.
I don't personally read any paper exclusively, as I don't agree with any newspaper that isn't neutral when it comes to politics but articles to come up in the news aggregator app I use. I do know that some people don't agree with the 'Mail's political beliefs, which is why I apologised. For the record, I'd probably apologise if it was from a number of different sources too...
