    Supporting any football club or any sporting club for that matter is a futile pointless exercise. I just do it because I absolutely love being the underdog and occasionally bloodying the odd nose....

    Me too the money is insane and the pressures to make tbe right decisions intense. I just turn up and hope for the best while expecting the worst a bit like Lee Crooks

    I said at the time before west ham signed him that Fletcher would be an excellent investment for us and with a year in the championship, he would have been worth at least 2-3 times what we had paid. But we wouldn't have been able to meet his wages in our structure so it blows the whole blueprint apart.

    If we ever made it to the prem we should look to use the same model but pay the right wages to get the young prem talent. Soon as they step out into a premier league game their value sky rockets - as we have seen.

    I know that's the count down conundrum but certainly for young players we could sell them our development record and sell them the future rather than immediate short term gain.

    But I was agreeing with his general point of its not black and white that those with the most money automatically have success. Hence my Huddersfield anecdote.

    I seem to remember plenty of doom and gloom towards the end of our last stay in the championship. It got to the point that we celebrated staying up like a promotion.

    I throughly enjoyed those games at Southend, Plymouth, Sheffield United, Hull City at home and Huddersfield away which all had something riding on them.

    We inevitably went down but we're soon back with two trips to Wembley to enjoy.

    Enjoyment doesn't have to come from season long success and winning runs. It can come at either end of the table, and sometimes unexpectedly.

    Last season travelling was more enjoyable than the home games. This time it could be the opposite, or both. . . . Or neither!

    I still try and approach it as I did when I first started going. What happens on the pitch takes priority over everything else. That's what I pay to watch.

    If you take the attitude that it is then if we did have a poor season that would provide justification for it and would lessen the need to complain

    Personally I don't think it's the right attitude: we should accept it is a steep challenge but approach it positively and strive to prove the odds very much wrong

    I think the argument is slightly more nuanced than that. We have an excellent track record when it comes to defence (probably the best around in recent times) , less so for midfield, and even less when it comes to attack (which is where the real money is).
    In part I think that is down to the fact that it is much easier to coach/develop defenders, strikers are a bit more down to individual talent.

    We have advanced careers and wallets of Hourihane/Winnall/Watkins/Scowen even Morsy and Fletcher. So I guess we can point to non defensive successes. You are right But our own lads though.
