and we still havent. Dont get me wrong, im all over our 'ethos' and what it has done for us but surely this should have been sorted long ago. Its a position that could be the difference between relegation and safety and with only a week left we have failed really (ugbo into account) to sort despite money being available. Its just so Barnsley innit. Waiting on Mcburnie for last 2 months and that still is up in the air. It just smacks of penny pinching again. Come on Tarn, give Hecky the backing he deserves, get it sorted like. COYR
Did anyone ever get to the bottom of the Winnall fiasco and find out who signed the deal off at our end. I just find it bizarre that Linton left shortly thereafter giving the impression that he either signed it off against club wishes and took the flack for it or alternatively it was signed off without his approval and he walked after being sidestepped. Either way, bad news.
Getting new players isn`t like walking into Asda and picking them up of the shelf, Hecky has to wait until the right one becomes available at the right price, and if there is a good player available the club he`s with are not going to be too keen to sell him, or they are going to want silly money for him. So its a waiting game, it takes as long as it takes. The last time we brought players in left right and centre we ended up nearly loosing the club. I`m pleased to see the players who we have brought in are on longer term contracts of about 3 years or so which I think helps. Whatever happens this season we stick with Hecky,I just wish he was on a longer contract because if we do well there`s going to be a lot of clubs knocking on his door
Replacing a 20 goal a season striker is easier said than done. I've been watching the reds almost 40 years, and we haven't had a great deal of them in that time.
Should'nt have let it get to this stage contracts should have been offered after the play off final if they chose not to sign that was there choice but they might have signed and it might have been us now planning for premier league Winnall in my opinion made the wrong choice and went for the money Hourihane i think wanted to stay but the club wanted to cash in
Hourihane made his own mind up. He said he had a big decision to make, and that decision was to go and get a thick wad of dosh at villa, same as winnall.
But if the club had offered him a new contract with a decent rise i think he would still be at oakwell now
Thing is - yer just can't replace a goal scorer with another goal scorer unless you pay big money in fees/wages. Money reduces the risk. Which Barnsley clearly hasn't got. So - alternatively you bring in a few hungry young strikers hoping that one of them turns out to be good. As Simon Davey used to say - a third of the players brought in dosent work out. In saying that - Hecky has a different method of assessing potential signings.
Do you get to many games living in Watford? Edit - I've just seen another post where you say you live in Malta. Are you one of those who never gets to games so has to show how good a supporter by over zealously defending and praising everything the club does on a message board?
It is a valid point. We have not replaced Sam winnall with ANYONE. It isn't a question of whether his replacement has been good or bad because simply he has not been replaced which is actually quite shocking considering how few strikers we had at the time and now
Actually live in Malta. Managed to go to the friendly the other night away at Rochdale. Managed to get to 6 home games last year - Norwich, Leeds, Wednesday, Cardiff, Ipswich, Preston along with 4 away games - Burton Albion, Wednesday, Huddersfield and Newcastle. Go on, whats your point? Trying to make me out as some armchair fan? I might not be able to get to them all, but I fly across when I can.
I've edited the original post as I saw in another thread that you live in Malta. I've made my point on that post.
So now Im not as good a fan as you because I live thousands of km's away but still went to 10 games last year?
