"The family of a black man who died" Why the focus on his skin colour? As I see it it is far more relevant to say "the family of a man who ran from the police and then tried to swallow evidence who died" than it is to start pretending the police forced him to run from them and then kill himself by choking on something he was trying to conceal purely because he was black.
Loved the interview with the guy on the street " they are frustrated and need to sell drugs and carry knives cos they don't want to conform to the system " oh ok then ****
He was an Asian fella wasn't he? I agree if he doesn't swallow drugs he was trying to conseal he stays alive. Can't believe they are kicking off about that. What's the world coming to.
Something about excessive force. The copper was fine when he approached him, but clearly off camera the lad has done something that the copper felt the need to hold him down. Perhaps he was trying to swallow the evidence, or perhaps the copper thought he was reaching for a knife. Can't say I'm bothered which, glad there's one less scumbag on our streets.
He was once a little lad, kicking a ball, playing games with his friends. Liked all the things 5 year old boys do. Between there and last week he ended up dead on a shop floor. Those events should be of concern to anyone actually interested in what's wrong with society. Even a heartless lovely person like yourself Edit: the thing that struck me about the footage was how that there was no apparent need for the policeman to grab him, wrestle him to the ground and pin him down, regardless of him subsequently dying. The lad had entered the shop and wasn't going anywhere. Police are far too quick to resort to the use of force. I've seen it myself several times (use of a tazer for no reason was particularly disturbing).
You don't think there was a reason to physically restrain him? I would say that refusing to stop for the police, running from them and being chased and then trying to swallow evidence and resisting is a good reason to restrain someone. Let's put you in that situation then. You are a police officer. Do you physically restrain someone who has just run from you or do you politely ask him to stop and if he says no then oh well bye bye? You witness a suspect trying to swallow evidence. Do you just say 'enjoy your dinner mate, see you another time's or do you physically try to restrain him and try to remove the evidence from his mouth? It's very easy to blame the police but if he didn't run he would not have been chased. FACT. If he didn't try to swallow evidence he wouldn't have choked on the evidence. FACT. The simple facts are that this man died of his own hand due to entirely to his illegal activities. As for the 'he was one a little kid's. So was Peter Sutcliffe but how much sympathy do you have for how his life turned out?
Do you know much about the lifestyle of drug dealers? Most of them, especially in London tend to be tooled up. Shanks, shooters, cosh's. Drop em and get them restrained. Don't take the risk. The biggest issue out of all of this is the incendiary nature of the political groups like Black lives matter acting as instigators and being behind much of rioting over the last couple of days. They only ever seem to turn up when it's a Black Death caused by a white person.
Its OK blaming the police but being a reds fan down there he was probably frustrated by our previously short sighted contract system and was worried Hecky would get sacked rather than have time to sort it. Hows that?
Dunno, I'm not sure entering a small shop is the best way of escaping from the police and he didn't put up much/any resistance. As I said in my experience police are sometimes way too heavy handed. Some seem to think it's their job to distribute justice as they see fit. I'm not asking you to *sympathise* I'm asking you to try and empathise and understand why kids grow up into drug dealers. Because if we don't look at the root causes we're stuck with this happening over and over as it has been for 40 years or more. Government policy and its war on drugs is failing and killing people. On his actual death ill personally take with a pinch of salt anything the Met police say about what he was allegedly swallowing. See Orgreave, Hillsborough, Jean Charles Menenez et al.
Putting words into people's mouths really makes you look silly. He never said that there is no need for a trial, he said that when regularly faced with people behaving in a certain way you have to protect your life accordingly.
Why not respond to my actual comments rather than making silly comments like this. I'm not sure what serial killers have to do with arresting people in shops but anyway... No sympathy. But that doesn't mean that I have no interest in understanding what might have made him and others like him do what they did. That's how society progresses. If we didn't folks like you would still be burning witches.
In terms of the wider issues of drugs in society (if that is related to what happened here) yes. 40 years of a "war on drugs" and the drug takers and dealers are still winning. Losing to smack heads and stoners. The police, as the State's enforcement apparatus is largely powerless too. It ends up with situations like this.
Occam's razor says the officer tried to restrain him because off camera he tried to swallow his stash, just like he then managed to do on the floor. If the officer hadn't tried to restrain him at that point and died anyway people would still be rioting on the streets because the Police hadn't done their job properly. Or just because they enjoy rioting.
