    from heckys comments and those on twitter after he went, I think it's safe to assume that Roberts was sold without heckys blessing

    Could explain why he's so pissed off

    I am pretty sure that Roberts was the best defender in the league according to blocks tackles etc. It could be a very costly mistake.

    Selling Robbo this summer was us getting his optimal value. Keeping him until January would've meant reduced transfer fee and obviously next summer would've meant zero.

    I have confidence Lindsay and Angus will be solid together this season. Pinnock will hopefully be decent too.

    There were signs of what would happen if we sold Roberts during the second half at Bristol. He went off and we started shipping goals.

    The difference in selling Robbo to all the rest was that Robbo wanted to stay! He wanted to sign a new contract.

    But the powers that be saw £3m as "value" for him. So we have sold our captain and been fed utter crap about it being because he was in the last year of his contract. A contract he was ready to sit down and extend.

    I'm perhaps a bit of a happy clapper, but with the Robbo issue there is absolutely no masking or sugar coating what happened. And I can't imagine selling our captain and best player at such a critical time, when it wasn't needed, has impressed Hecky.

    The manager didn't want to sell him. The player wanted to stay. Who exactly is making decisions on hiring and firing players?

    This with fvcking bells on. I'm behind the club and the business model generally but there has to be a balance between realising assets and doing what's best for the team on the pitch. The Robbo issue is one where the club got it bang wrong in my opinion.

    He wanted to sign a new deal on what terms though? Double his current wage? Treble? At Birmingham he'll be on a considerably higher wage than what we could've offered him.

    Of course I wanted Marc to stay (I'm not sure why any Barnsley fan wouldn't) but if he gets the chance to secure his family's future elsewhere I doubt he'd have stayed here on what we would've offered him.

    Helps if you do offer them contracts though doesn't it. You cant just keep saying 'he probably wouldn't sign so we didn't bother offering owt' about all our best players

    Was daft selling him. He was apparently only on £1700 per week.

    I'm sure we could have given him a big pay rise within our budget.

    End of day If were not gonna spend the money it's 3 million stuck in the bank or 3 million playing on the field. May as well go with the latter, could always have sold later if we needed the cash

    It's the fact it just didn't make sense. If Robbo had signed a new contract we would have been in a better position this year, with a more settled defence, and if the powers that be wanted to cash in on him next January or next summer they could have sold him for more, when hopefully the likes of Lindsey and Pinnock were more ready for the championship.

    I agree with "the plan", but I won't blindly support every decision. In this case it looks like a monumentally bad decision, and Heckys reaction is what concerned me most - he clearly didn't agree. I didn't like Winnall, Hourihane and Bree going in January. But I did see the logic (if we invested correctly in players in the summer). I am finding it much harder to understand the seeming unwillingness to back Hecky with the players he wants, and selling Roberts.

    Will still support the club, am still excited for the season ahead. But unless Hecky is on board then I do not see this working. Either short term or long term.

    Based on what I've seen of Angus last season and the fact that Lindsay was good enough to get in the team of the year last season (a team of the year that was filled with the top 2 teams I might add) and from the opinions of people that have seen him play.

    I think if people knew how much Robbo is actually on at Birmingham they might stop bashing the club so much.

    No slight on Robbo by the way. He conducted himself magnificently throughout the whole saga. Didn't really want to go but what Hes on now will comfortably set him up for life. Great player, great lad, great servant.

    How much he's on is irrelevant though isn't it if he wanted to stay. I don't recall him stamping his feet and asking to go to Brum on a huge wage.

    He wanted to stay with us though and would have been open to negotiations but we didn't try any. Pretty disgraceful whatever you think of the plan.
