Over-reaction? It's only a friendly? The plan has worked? Sure. But what marked Saturday out was Hecky's reaction. This is a man who 'treats triumph and disaster both the same'. But there was no mistaking the anger and frustration. So do the Board ignore that, assume Hecky was just letting off steam, and carry on as if nothing happened? Well we ought to know more by this evening. It's the Radio Deedah annual managers' special and PH will be slated to appear. It's inconceivable that he won't be asked more about his outspoken comments at the weekend - if he decides/is allowed to turn up. If Jamie C is fielded instead, he would be asked the same questions about how the land lies at Oakwell. So there really ought to be clarity about things from out of Oakell today. As I see it, if they want to retain Hecky (who in some ways could be regarded as the greatest manager we've ever had) then the Board need to demonstrate that they're taking him seriously. Another manager parachuted in at this stage will lead in only one direction. Hecky on the other hand would not be short of offers.
If all parties take this the right way then this can work out as a positive. The players wake up and start doing as they're asked and recruitment gathers speed. People fall out at times it's how you react that's important. I blame the blown up reaction to this on the times. People on here will remember a day when you would have a fight at some point on a night out and then have a pint with them the next time you saw them, all put to bed. These days it's straight to the police station if someone stands on your trainers bleating like a lamb.
It could be an interesting listen, however the amount of airtime that reds managers usually get on the managers special is usually quite sparse. Football heaven is on all week though so I'm sure by Thursday or Friday we'll know more.
"Barnsley are currently weighing up contract offers for former stars Danny Blanchflower and George Robledo, in order to bolster their threadbare squad."
UPDATE Robledo has turned down the contract, with his agent describing Barnsley's offer of 5 shillings and 4d a week as "derisory". Barnsley director Barry Taylor is reported to have said "We can't see what the problem is. We feel it's a generous offer, which is indeed worth nearly double George's previous contract at Oakwell."
I never read too much into friendlies, but losing 4-0 to one of the worst teams I've seen (last season) a week before the season opener really made me a little concerned. I think Hecky's comments were bang on the money. Hopefully it will give us a kick in the arse.
After the Rotherham defeat i was going to say let the kids have a go they will show some passion...err hang on ..cough. ( only joking ) lol .. The club is full to the brim with dustbin lids...anymore and Oakwell can be re named The Creche Id like to see a couple of older heads signed if im honest...
Drama queen. Blowing things up far out of proportion. Hecky and the rest of us are annoyed that it's been a really slow process getting players in. That's it - period - full stop - end of.
