On our last two championship relegation seasons we lost 4-0 both times .
    Bets anyone ?
    (said tongue in cheek)
But there are always lots of goals at Ashton Gate .

We beat Boro on the opening day of the season about 4 or 5 years ago?

It's usually more likely to be 4-3 than 4-0 though.

7 wins on the opening day of the season in the last 30 years. 4 of those have been since the year 2000.

We are due one though by the law of averages.

Promotion season from league 1 when Ritchie was in charge?? We beat Swindon at home 2 nil. Wonderful debut goal from Hayes when he chipped the ball over the keeper from the edge of the box. Then the other goal was from Chris Shuker.

We've been due a win at Coventry and QPR for 100 and 50 years, respectively.

Can we also factor in how many times we start away from home? Indeed, The number of times we have started and finished the season away from home must be way more than most other teams.

I think these are the last seven opening day wins, and only 1 of them was away.

    3-0 h Fulham, in 1983
    2-1 h Brighton, in 1990.
    2-1 h Derby, in 1994.
    2-1 a West Brom, in 1996.
    1-0 h Norwich, in 2000.
    1-0 h Brighton, in 2003.
    2-0 h Swindon, in 2005.

2003 was Colchester. Deano Gorre scored from a penalty

We beat Middlesbrough 1-0 at home in 2012, Craig Davies scored.

I remember the Colchester game in 2003, absolutely sweltering weather and the players had a mini-break after 20 minutes. I think we signed our whole defence only a week or so before that game due to the ongoing Admin issues. In came Sasa Illic, Peter Handyside, Craig Ireland and was it Tony Gallimore? Maybe another one too. Despite the problems we had a really good start and were top going into September, beating Chesterfield and Blackpool away before things began to unravel.

Yes weren't there real concerns that we might not even be able to play our matches that season, because of some sort of 'embargo' which dragged on for ages!. And I think Bradford agreed at the last minute to step in and visit us for a friendly, the week before the season kicked off.

We had an administration embargo which meant we had a small squad , played a certain way and were successful .
Then we sold Rory Fallon for 60k and were able to increase the size of the squad .
This led to playing a different style and as Samba Tyke says things starting to unravel .
So is the moral of this story that more money doesn't always breed success .
    Or I am I talking ******** as usual ?

IIRC we sold Fallon to help the finances which meant the way Gudjon had us setup didn't work anymore and we stopped scoring.
