Looks like he's the new academy gaffer, after Howarth left to join them lot down the road. Good to see him working his way up, like Hecky.
Hopefully the plan is to see if he develops into a managerial candidate, for when Lord Heckin of Botttom takes over at The Bernabau... Good luck Disco!
Actually.. that's really great news. Clearly a fans favourite while here as a player. Has the right attitude here as a coach, to be promoted, to drive through the young uns. Bobby stays in his rightful position as youth team development (or whatever his role is) I tell you what... the last year or 2 make it great to be a redss fan... the next few years, in my opinion will go down in history! For good reasons only. Like the year in the premiership, or our good run in the FA cup, or the double Wembley appearance with a cup and promotion. This next couple of years with Hecky at the helm, and with the team around him, and the hungry young players we are recruiting, make me proud to be a reds fan... A PROUD REDS FAN!
Good to have Martin at the club, a good pro, who clearly loves BFC. We do need to build the club around people like this, to keep continuity, just like your Rimmo's, Winstanley's & Murphy's. It's good to bring in specialist professionals like the new CEO, but we need some folks who know the club inside out.
Just need Brucey to get set on now , seen he's done his coaching badges too . Good to have our old players coming back to coach
He sure does JP. His wife was a Rep for a company who sold to the Furniture and Design Centre where I worked prior to my retirement. Our F&D team always enjoyed her visits because she was a very personable lass. Our former Director was a Red and it was his wife who used to deal with Martins wife. She told me that Martin was absolutely gutted when we released him in 2011. They do say that " home is where the heart is " and based on what I was told, Martins heart truly does appear to be with Barnsley FC.
Hopefully in the future, in 10 years' time, the likes of Hourihane, Roberts and Scowen etc. will be coming back coach youth sides with the goal of potentially stepping up like Hecky, Devaney and Bobby have done
Now been confirmed that Matt Murray and ex-Reds defender Dale Tonge have joined the Academy coaching team. https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2017/august/academy-staff/
The only reason ex players take up coaching roles at previous clubs is usually because they have not earned enough money during their playing careers to retire. If you think Hourihane eho is earning 25K a week plus is going to come back to train the kids, your living in a dream world.
I think your right Bobby is head of Academy. Martin Devaney now head of PDP (Professional Development Phase) i.e.Mainly Under 18's. Tom Harban promoted from Youth Development Phase to assist Disco. Paul Harsley does U23s. Also as discussed prior Matt Murray joined as Goalie coach and Dale Tongue joined the team. I didnt realise they have nearly 50 staff in the academy full & part time !!
Overall, yes. I think he manages both the under-23, and under-18 set ups, coaching, etc. Not really sure on the 'title', but Devaney is the one that ultimately picks the under-18 team, and manages them through a game. Chris Howarth did this before, and Devaney was his assistant, but he's now stepped up after Howarth left for the blunts.
Martin & Tom were up at Emley with the U18's last week. When Sir Bobby walked in and joined them just before half-time I thought I'd died and gone to heaven!
Isn't he the academy manager when Branson left ? I think Bobby runs the scouting for the young sides and helps with coaching
Academy Manager: Bobby Hassell Academy Operations Manager: Shaun Selby Academy Secretary: Dawn Ranshaw Head of Academy Coaching: Mark Burton U23s Head Coach: Paul Harsley Academy GK Coach: Matt Murray Lead PDP Coach (16-18): Martin Devaney PDP Coach: Tom Harban Lead YDP (11-15) Coach: Andy Holdsworth YDP Coach: Dale Tonge More coaches/asst coaches for all teams and more management in place so more investment in the academy
