Hi everyone. Just a quick post to say hello and introduce myself. I've been following the board for quite a while now and decided to finally get involved. I don't live local and hence can't get to many games a season given work commitments but find the board an excellent way to keep in touch.
Welcome! I too don't live local so can fully relate to your post. Ignore certain posters who suggest this doesn't make you a proper fan. You Reds!
Welcome. I don't think I've ever actually shared my story on here but I actually have nothing to do with Barnsley at all. I came over from the states and I remember them having a game against Liverpool, they were supposed to get destroyed but played their hearts out and won, from then on I was just like "okay then I'm going to support Barnsley" haha. Not local either, I go between Nottinghamshire and Utah/California.
Welcome SC Red. No need to apologise for your inability to get to games. The fact that you are interested is good enough for me. Hope that the opportunity might present itself for you to get to the " Shrine" at some point in the future.
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I'm living in Portsmouth (have been for the last 17 years). My family are still up in Barnsley in the main but work makes it very hard to get to and from games. I'm off to Bristol on Saturday so very excited but that will probably be it until December.
I'm not turning this into a bitching sessions about certain individuals. Go through the threads if you must, it's clear enough. I was merely saying ignore anyone who may suggest you're not as good a fan because you don't attend as many games due to location. Not really got anything else to say on the matter.
Much the same as me Tomaiba. That cup run when we met Liverpool and Chelsea really clinched it for me. I was looking for a team south of the border to follow from a distance and hopefully make the occasional visit. Then there was the Ian Hume / Morgan incident. I talked about it on BFC boards, came down for a visit. Met up with 1 or 2 supporters, loved every minute of my visit now I'm hooked on BFC. Now after quite a few visits I've made some very good and special friends. Always a great time visiting Oakwell and the local bars. I have to say the highlights for me must be the two Wembley games last year although the Hull game when we won 2-0 to help us survive a couple of years ago was also a great day. Also I must say there are quite a few Tykes on this board who I have never met but I feel I actually know them and are all in their own way good lads.
Welcome theres always room at the top table here in the madhouse for anyone who supports barnsley....no matter where you live Theres also barnsley foreign legion .....look .....on face book
Lots of us don't live locally so you're in good company - Still kept my season ticket but struggle to make some games. Doesn't make you or me any less of a fan. Think after 40 years I can claim to be a Barnsley fan Welcome on board and enjoy the ride
