All ripening to a beautiful rich red, currently about 4 inches across. Have any of you had success with them before? This is the first year we've had any on the tree which is about five years old.
I have 3 peach trees and I have had at least 15 fruits off each tree, I also have 9 plum trees, 3 cherry, 5 apple and 4 pear trees all giving great amounts of fruit. Also I have grape vines that usually give about 300kg of grapes OK they are in the garden of my house in Bulgaria, but they are mine.
Not moved out yet mate, had house since last year, got lots of work to do on it before we move out. Its in a small village just outside Shumen and 1 hr from Black Sea resorts. I love it there, the closest football team to us is in the next village , called Hitrino, but Ludogrets Razgrad is about 45 kms away. The summers are really hot, its 39 degrees today , but the winters get very cold, gets down to about minus 15 in the area. Quite warm at the side of minus 34 they had in the mountains last year.
Chuffed to bits for you mate ,really am. Hope it's fantastic for you which I'm sure it will be . I went to suuny beach a few years ago and tbh never really got to know outside of it but it seems a topping country and friendly people. I'll be asking for updates if that's ok let me know how your getting on.
Sunny Beach is not representative of Bulgaria, its like Skeggy is not of England. The Country is beautiful and the people are so friendly. The alphabet is a total barsteward thoughm lol!
Good stuff mate. Are you planning on moving out there full time or just for parts of the year? I'm assuming the Black Sea resorts are full of Russians?! Though a lot of people I know in St Petersburg have a holiday home in Bulgaria, and they're all very decent folk. The Russian gopniks (chavs) tend to infest Turkey and Egypt, thoroughly spoiling everyone else's holiday. Proper pond life on the whole. As for the alphabet - it's an absolute piece of **** - compared with learning the actual language!
Great season for mangoes out here mate However, back in Wales I grew peaches with mixed success. Wet summers they rot. Dry summers the squirrels love them
I hope you're going to be experimenting on making Rakia- Bulagaria's best kept secret everyone assumes it's like Raki in Greece but is nowt like it. Amazing stuff. My partner was from Ruse, not far from you. I Went to watch Dunav play Ludogorets a couple of months ago. Beautiful country and people
We are hoping to move there permanently in the next few years. Bulgarians are fantastic people. When you listen to them speaking to each other it seems like they are arguing and getting aggressive , but in fact they are really friendly. I think that they look a lot more stern and scary, some proper hard looking barstewards in the village, but they are the kindest people ever. it is so bloody cheap too..
i think thats why there are so many plum trees in the garden, Rakia ! I have had lots of different versions of the stuff, some is lovely , others I would only use as paint stripper ;-) . I am pretty sure that Bulgarians are amongst the worst drivers in the world, plus the roads there are bloody horrendous in places. Not been to Ruse yet , it is only about 110 kms away from Kamenyak so we are hoping to get up there in september. I am learning the language(really slowly) but i struggle when i am reading it, i keep forgetting that the letters represent different letter in the cyrillic alphabet, like B-(V), P-(R), C-(S) etc. Then there are the sounds that are letters , plus ther are numbers in the words like 3 -Z and 6 -b. I can pick up on the spoken words a lot easier.. Shumen area hasn`t got a top league football team, but I have been to watch Hitrino, they are a 3rd tier Bulgarian league team , not a great standard, but they love tackling, proper hardmen football ! lol
Haha recognised a lot of that The thing I found hardest like you said was the Cyrillic letters that look Roman but sound different, like h for n, and p for r. I Just neurotically practised reading signs walking around until I got it. One thing that really put me off is the feminine/ masculine/ neutral formulations of words, even bloody numbers! My favourite rakia is the kaisieva (apricot). Beautiful stuff. Definitely go up to Ruse, it's a lovely, tranquil little city, lots of austro- Hungarian style buildings. You're right tho, any driving trip is absolutely mental in Bulgaria. I don't get how such nice people go insane behind a wheel. The single lane coast roads are the worst. It is also the only place I have driven on a road as it was literally being built, dust flying everywhere and navigating around heavy machinery haha. My team Dunav for got promoted to the A grupa the season before last. I was disappointed at the Ludogorets match as before kids walked around taking your money to serve you beers, it was brilliant. But alcohol is banned in the top league. The football is so corrupt there tho. CSKA Sofia did a Rangers and got sent to the bottom division in administration. After one promotion they actually bought a historic top flight team Litex Lovech ( who got relegated) and somehow magically got reinstated in the top flight as CSKA. At the match I went to, if the ref made a bad decision, the crowd chanted Ma-fia! Hah
