.... Potts will hit the ground running at championship level. I have a feeling that he may struggle along with 1 or 2 of the other new signing. Here's to hoping and trusting Hecky. A few strikers now please Paul and GG
Think that's what Hecky was alluding to about needing enough bodies to be able to swap players in and out as an when their form may dip. Not every signing is going to hit the ground running, or perform to champ level for 46 games. Another winger, couple of strikers and perhaps a full back. See how we do through August. Still hoping we'll get 2 or 3 really class loans in to help supplement the squad we've got so far. May be against the plan but I'd also love to see an older head at centre back to partner McDonald initially and hopefully integrate Pinnock and Lindsey up to championship football. Kevin Long type loan for 6 months.
He might do. He might not. That's the market we are in. We have to take a risk that's these lads will step up. Some will, some won't. Some will but with time. I wouldn't read too much into what Blackpool fans say. I remember reading The Halifax board when Roberts signed. Many said he was non league standard only. It was obvious to me from his first game that they were well wide of the mark.
I was at Blackpool last season to watch us in the cup, we didn't play well and Blackpool were far the better team. The stand out player for them that day was Potts, alongside their small, nippy goalscorer. Potts never stopped running and was difficult to mark and keep track of. I remember saying to my friend at the game, we should be looking to get him if we could. Glad we did get him.
Can't be scratching around in the lower leagues hoping for the best on a striker though, if we don't have someone who is gonna put the ball in the net once every 2.5 games then this is gonna be an awful season and for the sake of investing a couple of million we could end up losing a lot more.
If Yiadom leaves and if we can offload Jackson then I'd say yes. 3 additional loans. And 5/6 permanent signings. First team ready players need to make up 5 of those spots. With that I am not saying pay big money more recruit players like Morsy & (for all his faults Kent). Sir Alex once said that a success rate of 30 to 40 percent on transfers if you are not buying 'elite ready' players is pretty good. We go into the season needing (at the minute) an 80 to 90 percent success rate we need to build in a buffer. If you look at last seasons signings few made an immediate impact and many struggled. Luckily for the most part we had a string talented spine to blend the new players into this year we have little or nothing. Hence the need for more players than just a couple more. If we had a strong established spine then I'd say 3/4 more platers might do it but not as it is.
If yids and Jackson leave then yes I can nearly see your logic, but still think 10 is a bit exaggerated, particularly considering we haven't seen most of the squad play a competitive game yet. I'd also have serious doubts about our recruitment team, and that includes Hecky, if we do require another 10.
