... then why play Potts who knows nothing at all about us, when it seems there were other options?

Just asking, as a tactical mumpty, to make it all understandable....

Potts was a poor option - in a bunch of poorer options.
Other than Potts we have one Championship winger who is out injured.
Hammill - will play a bit part this season - he isn't quick enough now to fit into the Hecky system.
As well as Potts - we now need another 2 fast wingers in case of injury and suspensions etc.

That struck me as odd. As did his signing. But will obviously give the lad a chance.

Mallan must really really not be impressing Hecky.... bird was selected on bench ahead of him and Potts in starting line up.

Potts will come good once he has been with Hecky for a few weeks.

I'm bored and fed up with this talk of wingers. It's 2017 not 1977, football has moved on from 442. Football can be entertaining without wingers. The players we have bought are more suited to 433, 3142,343,4231. Clubs are not coaching wingers but versatile multi skilled midfielders. For God's sake let's move,I don't agree with the owner who says it what Barnsley fans want. We want a team that is organised and plays to it's strengths.

Mallan can't tackle - neither can Mowatt.
Hecky probably thinking these are too small and lightweight- can only play one of them.

Of all our signings, considering the outlay on him, I'm least enthusiastic. I really really hope I'm proved wrong, and all the Blackpool fans who said he was out of his depth at L1 are wrong too.

Heckys style of football is fast counter attacking.
We need fast attacking players for that style.
Some may describe them as wingers.
They usually play out wide but can be played through the middle.
I would say we need 2 and 2 spares.
We have 2 at the moment Potts and Isgrove.

    Which makes 4 1 4 1 formation away from home a better alternative .

I suspect if we try to play with 2 wingers and 2 strikers, we'd get ripped apart by most teams in this league. We don't have the Hourihane/Scowen quality in the middle anymore to make it work. The likes of Derby County, Fulham, etc., would have a field day.

We need to make ourselves difficult to beat in the first instance. Every match will be a scrap to get points until the players have the experience and understanding of what each other is going to do. There's no point opening the gate wide open and planting a signpost saying 'This way to goal'. A bit like what Allardyce did when he took over at Palace. We need that kind of organisation and discipline

Allardyce, experienced Heckingbottom still dipping his toe in the water

Why are you so obsessed with size and bigger men being better? It sounds very much like somebody who is compensating...
