We need to stick them in the mincer if they don't play well. (like the teacher does in that pop video)
I think it'll take any player a couple of matches to settle down, especially in a position as reliant on familiarity as central defence. I suspect Lindsay and MacDonald will be our first choice pairing this season though (at least until January when one of them gets sold - got to hope that somebody else is up to the task after that!)
When Long went back to Burnley Roberts played with Mawson at Scunthorpe (a) & the pair of em were all over the place, we got beat, comfortably beat, Townsend dropped a clanger to help but defensively we were all over the place. I'm grasping the fact that they both came good after the settling period, surely it's just gonna be the same & we have more 'world beaters' when they get a few games under their belts I'm right aren't I ??? Please say yes......!!
I think you are right. Hopefully they become adjusted sooner rather than later though as the Championship is a different animal to League One. Think Lindsay will be a step up from Jackson or Pinnock too but we will see. I know it's not "the plan" but I wouldn't mind signing a veteran on a one year deal just to show these younger lads the ropes. Maybe we shouldn't have sold that Roberts guy
I genuinely think we have to get an experienced centre half in. It's all very well bedding in talented youngsters in League 1, but not in one of the highest standard and most unforgiving leagues in the world. Not only could it see us relegated, it could also have a seriously detrimental effect on the careers of Pinnock, MacDonald, Jackson et al being hammered every week and with no guidance on the pitch how to ride out some tricky situations.
I'd say defence is our most important area we need to improve on. All I see is talk about wanting strikers, which is fine and also true. But Tom Bradshaw is a very similar level to Sam Winnall in my opinion, maybe Winnall is better but not by too much. Ugbo also looks pretty decent from the little I've seen. Not saying we don't need a striker but I'm more concerned about the defence.
Hard to say really when Lindsay is out injured. looks a brilliant defender. Not to mention this is first competitive game outside the conference for Pinnock.
