If all is true and our best player wants to leave for pastures new then so be it. However he has a price................... and bear in mind the club gets slated for not selling our players at realistic prices while every other club seems to, then that is a pre determined price, that we have in mind. If other clubs come in with offers of less than that then that's just tough.Lets "cash in" is irrelevant, if the teams do not match our valuation then he is still a reds player until they do....so go back to your agent and let him/her know he is not going anywhere on the cheap........millions in the bank we have, proven quality championship players with the time to coach them ....we do not. Btw the scouts have been watching him since at least before Christmas (that I know of), the last two games will not effect their or their club's valuation, they know his worth, most are trying it on because we have inadvertently passed on the message we are a selling club and can be dealt with easier than a lot of other clubs. My opinion was exactly that in the January fire sale.............we are giving out the wrong messages to all the other clubs. If we are going to sell, then do it on our terms and have some replacements ready when we d............................, who we have enough TIME to work with.
We have sold all our best players and appear to be in permanent crisis why would he want to stay would be a better question.
Bollards to him, let him sit on the reserves bench for the rest of the season if we have to. Unless somebody comes in with a decent offer that suits us, we're not forced into selling him and we don't need to sell him on the cheap just for the sake of it.
Or Robbo in any of his multiple interviews. I think it's the lack of heart. Hourihane gave us the performance of the season and a cracking goal against Leeds. Yids ducks tackles, after one year? After saying he'll honour his contract?
I'm one of those who thinks the same as that. He's a Barnsley player until his contract expires or we receive an offer that meets our valuation of him. If he believes that putting in under par performances will earn him his move to the Premier Division he's probably in for a rude awakening.
You are of course entitled to your opinion. 12 months ago and now are very different kettles of salami. 12 months ago he was joining a vibrant confident team on tbe way up. If I worked for a company that had liquidised all its assets and bought in cheap replacements I'd be looking for an exit strategy. Where my line manager was seemingly at odds with those above him. Fire sale springs to mind.
Yes totally correct Because equally any player could then say he wants a move even though the transfer fee is no where near their worth ie Yiadom worth (probably £3million) offer from others £500,000 (hypothetical offer).....oh no he wants a move, we had better let him go then !!
Being reported he's asked to leave. If that's true for me , move him on asap. Negativity and discontent is the last thing you need in any squad. We ought to now actively encourage teams to make offers for him and if our valuation is met, get him out of the Club as soon as we can. In my opinion we should only be signing or retaining players who genuinely want to play for Barnsley Football Club. https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/j...er-league-target-has-asked-to-leave-barnsley/
Let him leave when we are sure we got good cover so as not to jeapordise our performances, and if hes not performing drop him...simples
I think that that there are two important factors we sometimes forget. One, this is football where there is an expectation of moves within the contract period and hence why factors are written in associated with that. The wages delta between clubs is massive. Secondly, human behaviour. We can't write commitment, desire, hunger, distraction, motivation into a contract. Often players are better off personally seeing their contract out then touting themselves to the highest bidder. The risk of course is whether their net worth is the same in the summer as right now.
The other obvious risk in not moving now whilst offers are theoretically on the table is that anything could happen between now and the summer and offers may not materialise come June. Just look at Butterfield and Heinz Muller, both linked with far bigger moves than they ended up with after getting injured, I'm sure that'll play on some player's minds who are scared of missing the boat if they wait.
It should be remembered that most fans weren't particularly impressed this time last year with his performance against Ipswich.
Absolutely right. Thats the point i alluded to in my last sentence. Once a player has decided he wants to go, I'm my opinion we should let them. The plan is for us to develop young and hungry players. If the hunger has gone then it makes things harder. Also we can't forget we have attracted many against competition due to their belief we will help them move to bigger and better things for them. As a club we have to get the best from the player on the pitch, which will attract the interest and cash in best we can when its time to go
