Not digging anyone out but just read a thread and imo people get far too connected to players. We had an actual proper Barnsley fan in our team a few years ago. One that apparently used to go to a load of games. He joined Everton and the club released another and he plays for Mansfield. Players come, players go. It happens. Don't get sour about it. They want to leave then the head coach as to earn his money and get them to stay or they go and the club makes money from them. The idea that the club will hold them at the clubs crazy. The idea that we will put them in the reserves is crazy. By doing either of those things the club would destroy all hope for growth in the future. No up and coming player would touch us.
That is just part of it but how do you connect with the club without connecting with those who represent it on the field. It is kind of what the game and the club is all about
I occasionally think (I could leave it there) that if you could morph Hemsworth Tyke and Red Rain into one person you could have a perfectly balanced Barnsley fan.
I can feel the love! As a poster whose opinion I respect, I would like you to help me out with a dilemma. Should I continue Minority Report into a second season. Here is my dilemma. Minority Report is essentially a discussion of tactics, both ours and the opposition's, but with so many new players, Hecky is bound to concentrate on integrating the new players into a system that they already all understand. In other words, he is bound to use 4-4-2. Now we all know about 4-4-2. It is the system we learned as kids (sadly not me as the W formation was still in use when I was a kid) and everyone knows how it works. Therefore, is there any point to Minority Report? I think not.
Please carry on, I don't always agree but you provide a view and an opinion and that's what a forum is about.
most of us secretly enjoy it mate even if it baffles us when you take 5 paragraphs to write 5 actual words! keep it up as if you dont we might end up just arguing the toss with each other.... what we already do? !
some posters on here have an unnecessary downer on some players. Be a strange relationship between a club and a fan if nobody had a strong connections to certain players
Are you actually serious? With your ongoing unwarranted fascinations in continually castigating anyone you take a dislike to - yet bigging up anyone from a premier league club as a modern day pele even if they're pretty crap, how on earth can you call out anyone else for focussing on individuals? I am connected to players whilst they are here and not anymore after they've gone - in most cases. So if that's your point, ok. However I take an interest in the progress of the likes of stones, holgate, mawson. Especially the first two as Barnsley fc brought them on from kids. No more connection than that though really. As a tip, stop writing your opinion as though it's a fact - and stop defending at as though it is and that if anyone differs they're wrong. If you genuinely don't want to wind folk up, that'd be a good start. It's fine to have different opinions, but you have a way of writing it as the gospel truth. And if it's about Yiadom, it appears to be, I agree to be honest. If he doesn't want to be here but stays the same player that's one thing, but if he's not 100% in 50/50s and is even remotely disruptive, we aren't rich or big enough to mess about, get him sold.
A definite jest. I love the minority reports and definitely think you should continue. We have points of disagreement but probably see about 90 percent of things the same way. Sometimes I think you see a different way of seeing things as a critcism of you or a gentle teasing as withering critcism. I really hope you continue as in all seriousness I look forward to them and your views.
Maybe you could analyse individual development of players and integration into the managers favoured system. I think we may evolve into a more 4-3-3 as tbe season goes on given our lack of forward options. Or maybe that's just me hoping. Either way carry on they are one of the best things about this board
I see your point HT, I imagine what you're saying is don't get attached to players at Barnsley as they all just move on as soon as they start showing abit of promise?. Not that easy though, is it? If we didn't care about individual players then we wouldn't care about Barnsley FC. I understand that the lack of loyalty in the game, and it's something we have to deal with as it will never change until companies like sky go bust, but to not care about our players because of the lack of loyalty? Giiiioooorrrrrr
