There's a decent chance we'll sign some more, better players on or before 31st August. Or on or before 31st January 2018. There's a decent chance some of our current signings will turn out to be good Championship players. There's a decent chance that Hecky will stay and continue to build a decent squad. There's a decent chance that some people are worrying about something which has not happened yet. Some people have the knack of coming up with a problem for any solution, and it seems some of them post on here. Why not just wait and see what happens, and get on with life in the meantime?
We could turn this thread into a more philosophical chat about the " here and now " instant society we all now live in because this is the root of the problem and is causing the word "patience" to be largely ignored.
So....what you are saying is let's not fear the worst when hoping for the best is much nicer. Hmm, happy to do that. Some, alas, wouldn't know how to even if full instructions were written down on a fifty foot long billboard on the back of an articulated lorry that was parked outside their house for a week. They wouldn't have the time to read the simple message.
I'm usually a glass half full type of guy. (Large glass). The Morcambe game really illustrated to me how far we are away from having a "team". At 2-0 & 3-1 up vs L2 opposition we never looked safe. There are no doubt some stars of the future there, a lot of promise & I'm excited to see them develop. As the OP says we'll see.... I think folks are entitled to be honest about the situation. I can tell you this, I won't be calling for Hecky's head if we are near / at the bottom at Christmas. That is where I'm expecting us to be, barring some experience at the back being signed & two more strikers.
The thing is most people realise that if you consistently sell/let contracts run down with your better players then it generally only leads to short/medium term deterioration. Hecky has said as much himself. I'm neither a pessimist nor an optimist but I have to say that I am seriously concerned about the season ahead. As I've stated before, I am very much of the belief that the club, given PC's situation, has prioritised financial security over anything else. Whilst this is understandable, what was already a daunting task given the amount of money sloshing about in the Championship, now looks like an increasingly impossible one. I hope I'm wrong.
We will stop up. I don't believe all the pessimistic posts and reckon there are at least six clubs worse than us in the division.
I don't think anyone on here thinks this season is going to be easy. Staying up is the object this year. We can't challenge at the top of this league every year. We never have been able to do that. It's about hanging around long enough and waiting til the opportunities arrive. Some might justifiably say we didn't gamble on an opportunity last season. Personally I think we made the right call but it was a toss up. If we hang around this year then next we might just have a shot...if Hecky is still here.
That was then, I'm different now. I'll leave it up to you to guess who was responsible for my current mindset on matters at Oakwell!
Neither will I, he's proved himself time and time again despite the challenges he's had to face. If he fails, it will almost certainly be someone else's fault. But he's not failed yet, and there's plenty of time, some funds and 1 and a bit transfer windows. What could possibly go wrong?????
