He's replaced all players really apart from Armstrong and elder .. elder was garbage though let's be honest Now we have got another midfielder thrown in the mix for 2 centre midfield positions .. See all new players replacing old ones plus all the existing core we already had . It's a right mess Roberts - Lindsay/ pinnock white - fryers Yiadom - Pearson/ McCarthy Watkins - hedges / Potts Scowen - Williams/ mallan / moncur James - mcgeehan/ Potts/ sessi Kent - Isgrove Armstrong elder - none yet Jones. Pearson / McCarthy I have every confidence in Hecky but this doesn't look good .. why buy players if they are not even part of your formation just to make up the numbers I don't understand it personally .. hope it comes good like ..and fast !!
Some things are bigger than football. Mr Cryne's health being one. It does leave us in a right old mess at the minute. I'm not religious, I only live my life day by day what I see. The club will go on. I don't think that, given the club will change hands in the fairly near future that Hecky could think he has job security.
Since my first ever game in 1987 we have always sold our best players to be able to survive I'll make a prediction for the next twenty years.! 1. The DFS sale will still be on. 2. Supporters will still be saying on the BBS that we are going down after one game of every new season. 3. We will still be selling our best players to survive. We are Barnsley- it' s what we do.!
Agree we sell out best player but most of the team year on year? Hecky is a good manger but there comes a point when his position becomes untenable. I don't think he's far from that now and, quite honestly, who would blame him.
Donny, to begin with I think the panic sets in a bit if or when we lose so badly on the opening day, like at Ipswich last year and at Bristol City last week. But as for your 3rd point, I also know we're a selling club and as much as I hate us having to be, I understand it will probably always be the case. However surely even selling clubs shouldn't be so naive as to sell almost their entire squad in such a short space of time, and replace them with unknown kids, and still expect to stay up in the English Chasmpship ?
Just trying to reckon up. We released White, Watkins and Scowen chose to leave and we sold Mawson, Winnall, Bree and Hourihane. When those players most of whom apart from White came in, they were with League 2 Clubs ( Mawson was on loan at Wycombe from Brentford). I will be honest at the time they signed , I was underwhelmed because apart from Winnall who was getting goals for Scu*thorpe I have to admit I'd never heard of any of the others. If we are being honest ( again) although they came into a League One set up none of them were what you could call outstanding from the off, in fact at some points in the season Scowen and Watkins failed to nail down a regular place in the team. When they came to the Club Mawson was 21, Scowen and Winnall 22 and Watkins and Hourihane were both 23. Looking at our latest intake, from some of the comments on the board some don't seem to rate them. I still profess we have to be fair and give them a fair chance to settle in and show us what they can do. Including loan players ( Ugbo and Williams) we have 5 players now in the squad of Premiership pedigree. Potts, McGeehan and Pearson have played in League 2 , Mallan and Lindsay have played in Scottish Premiership and Pinnock played in a team promoted to League 2 last season. As for being kids, Mallan, Lindsay and McCarthy are the same age as Mawson when he joined re-21, McGeehan, same as Winnall 22, Potts same as Hourihane and Watkins 23, with Pinnock, Fryers, Pearson and Isgrove the oldest of the new recruits at 24 years old. We have more players coming in we are told. As I and others have said in previous postings, let's see our final squad and give it between 10-15 games before we start making any pronouncements as to where we might finish come May 2018.
Why sign players just to make up the numbers? Because due to an absolutely piss poor performance from the higher ups he is desperate and will take ANYONE he can get because he HAS to make up the numbers just to be able to field a team.
Mine was 15 years earlier. To claim this is the same as ever is just not true. We have sold an occasional star player sometimes a couple we have never sold so many so quickly. It is not even vaguely the same. Sorry to demur.
Of the players we signed last season only 2 could be considered as unqualified successes. McDonald and Yiadom. The rest were various degrees of failures. This season we need every single one of those coming in to immediately succeed. It's a massive ask. I haven't written this new lads off but can see them more easily smashing L1 next season than surviving in the championship this season. As you say only time will tell.
Everything's undisclosed so fans don't know (disclaimer... only on 2nd page of 6 so adequate discussions may have taken place)
I said this tonight. But he's not played enough. But when he has he seems good. I don't know why he's only played bit part.
