I asked this question a few seasons ago when we went away to Coventry. We were going through the awful run of losses under Lee Johnson at the time and it was a fixture that we always lose anyway, so who cares eh. My suggestion was should we ignore and forget about these fixtures, regardless of what form we're in at the time, because we never win there anyway etc. (hence the idea of them being a so called 'free' game). Looking back at our opening day game away at Bristol City, I think most of us dismissed it anyway because of the same reasons. We rarely win there at Ashton gate and we rarely win on opening day either. Should we keep ignoring these games though and dismissing them like when we goto QP.Rangers... we WIILL lose there this season you can bet your life on it.
No we shouldn't ignore them, because whilst we have bad records at some (many) grounds, to suggest this has much if any bearing on the result this season is daft.
Got a bit of stick at work about our opening day result. But I just said we never win on opening day I'll start being bothered if we get beat easy next week. I honestly never expect us to win first game so suppose it is a fre game
Thats just it though Andy kid, my argument is can we afford to dismiss these awful fixtures as 'free' games, especially when we're desperate for wins and points this season to begin with.
Maybe we will make up for them by winning bonus games. The games we think we have no chance and end up with 3 points
Ahh yes I suppose the idea of my so called 'free' game can be countered with your idea of a 'bonus' game. Don't show off though, thats what Mods do.
For every free game that we always lose every season, don't we also have some games that we win every season too - like away at Liverpool or Bramhall Lane We just need them to cancel out.
Burnsley used to think it becuase they could never win at our place, and neither can Tranmere or West Brom.
