Being blending into the squad and brought up to speed. McDonald was only thrown in at the deep end because we flogged Mawson. Straight question do you think it is our intention to spend in excess of 1/2 million quid to act as cover?
Moncur, Bradshaw, Mowatt, Kpekawa, Pinnock. None of them signed as definite starters to build the team around. Im not saying Pinnock is cover and cover only Im saying he wasn't signed to replace Jackson. We needed 4 capable centre backs and he's signed to be one of them.
In the longer term I think Jackson has more potential than Angus. At the minute he's a liability. Only two will start and in the medium term it's difficult to see Jackson as one of those two starters. If we had been happy to go with a pairing of Angus and Jackson as first choice we would not have spend serious money (for us) on a additional squad member we would have gone cheap and cheerful.
Angus is captain and Lindsay will be selected once fit which means currently Pinnock is seen as 4th in the pecking order.
Aye I'd agree with that for the few weeks until we get up to speed. As I said I'm not sure we have spent a club record fee for a (defensive player) that we don't intend in the medium term to play or that we don't evaluate to have more potential than Jackson. We will see.
Not so much a case of being weaker, more non-existent, at least against Morecambe. Can't remember him winning any aerial challenges. Looks mobile and decent on the ground mind you.
A lot of its confidence & familiarity with the players around them. On a couple of occasions when Roberts was injured / suspended Jackson & MacDonald played together & did well last season. Didn't they get clean sheets in 2 away victories together? People need to get that we won't be signing another centre back, we've got 4 in these two, Lindsay & Pinnock plus we've got McCarthy & Pearson who have experience of playing there & can do if needed. A club like ours isn't going to be carrying more than 4 first team centre backs, financially it'd be stupid. All 4 are relatively young & defenders tend to peak later, I think they've all got some talents & are worth persisting with so I think we should just get behind them. No 'Jackson's ****' or 'Angus is **** without Roberts'. It weren't that long ago that Roberts & Mawson looked a poor partnership
Jackson is also our highest rated performer in our first 2 games according to statistics. The same website that some were raving about when it had Roberts, Hourihane and Yiadom right up there with the leagues best performers.
I wish that overhead bicycle kick had gone in, the lad's a trier, he'll improve with time and games and that would have given him a right boost.
Of course it does. You are defending Jackson by bringing a stats website into it and apparently it says he is our "best performer". You then try and strengthen your point by saying people raved about this same stats site when Houriane et al were top rated players IN THE DIVISION. it is only relevant if Jackson is too. He might well be our top rated player, if so it sheds light on why we've lost 2 and conceeded 5 so far.
Im saying we all said the website was accurate when it was showing those 3 performed well. So we cant now claim its not because its showing Jackson as our best performer.
If we are trying to re-balance the squad's experience, as was suggested earlier, it's possible one of these central defenders could be sent out on loan in favour of someone more commanding and up to speed.
There's a difference between being the best of a bad bunch at club level and being top rated in the entire division like Hourihane and Roberts were. Where's the link?
Thats not what I'm saying. A lot of posters on here used to quote the stats from this very site when trying to justify how good these players were. All I'm saying is this site has Jackson as our highest rated player so far. It's nothing to do whether he's the best of a bad bunch or not.
